597 storage?

My 597 stays open on the last shot fired like it should, do I dry fire it before I put it back in the safe or leave it open?

I'll often just put a fired cartridge back in the chamber and pull the trigger on it.

Pull the empty magazine out and pull the charge handle and let it go forward. Pull it back until the tension gets harder. It's roughly half way. Just when you feel that it's harder to pull, pull and hold the trigger and let the bolt go forward. This is how to device it.

I''ve had mine for more than 10 years and never decocked for storage. I haven't seen any affect yet, but i'll knock on wood anyways.

I generally put a snap cap in the breech and dry fire. I've never felt that leaving a firing pin spring under tension for a long period of time is a good thing.
