If you are looking for a volquartsen hammer and extractor for you Remington 597 give Dan a call at hawlktech. Yes there are still Americans who will deal with us Canadians. It took about 2 weeks to receive 0 issues. And the cost was about $56.

Installed the hammer and extractor very easy to do, man what a difference! The trigger pull is crisp and reduced in weight. The hammer is slightly heavier then the stock one the bolt slides light and smooth. The extractor crisply snaps back into position unlike the stock and there are slight differences in the geometry of both extractors. There were brands of ammo which the stock gun did not like at all. I will try them next week and let you know if the up grade is worth it.

When I had my 597, I changed out the extractor to a Volqs and it made all the difference in the world. Trigger is pretty nice on my fiance's 597, still a weee bit heavy for my taste, but I am used to the aftermarket triger in my savage now. I can imagine how many more of these rifles would sell if remington spent the extra bucks to do these upgrades.

Hawktech charges $15 to ship to Canada now. Rimfire Sports still ships to Canada free. Just got a VQ extractor for a Ruger, no shipping or handling charges and it arrived 9 days after I ordered it. Their postage cost was $1.49.

When I checked Rimfire had 0 stock and even with the 15$ it was still cheeper to go with hawktech.

Finally tried out the VTR today. All I can say is HOL#$%HIT. The gun fed everything and anything close to 1000 rds 0 cleaning and 0 issues! The trigger is lightning fast to the point it almost sounds like an automatic. I don’t know how theses parts perform on the 10/22 are a must due to the 597

Hawktech VQ extractor & spring = $10.95US
Rimfire Sports VQ extractor & spring = $11.95US
Plus a $15 US for handling charge by Hawktech. That may be an acceptable alternative, but it is not cheaper.

Price check for the 597
Hammer extractor hawktech 31.95 + 19.95

Hammer extractor Rimfire Sports $37.95 +17.95

I stand corrected, Who cares about 10$ Its well worth it if you own a 597!!!

hey guys !!!!

does the new hammer and extractor will improve the light strkes on the VTR
cause that's the only issue with mine ?

That would be an guide rod issue from being to tight. Buy some snap caps and find the sweet spot then mark it. So every time you assemble the rifle you know excatly were to line them up.

I found that it does elimenate the problem I was having light strikes with remington brand ammo. The hammer solved this problem, I think the hammer might be slightly heavier then the stock one.
