I was just reading a post on Saubier that Eagle View Arms is going to be making some 5mm rifles. It sounds like an interesting caliber, 30gr bullet @ 2350fps. Does anyone shoot the old Remingtons?
 
"...an interesting caliber..." Yep, but there's little or no ammo available. Seems to me Aquila is the only current maker, but not available in Canada.
 
Would be better at long range than the WMR or the HMR
I'd Kind of rather have a Hornet though. That way you can load it down to those velocities/pressures and have your cases last a lot longer.
 
Apparently this rifle will come with two different bolt heads that you can change so you can shoot center fire that you reload on your own or rim fire ammo.

To me that seems no different then a 30 grain WMR. Ya ya I know it is only published at 2200 fps but the chronie figures are much higher.
 
CZ made a few test guns last year or so, but I guess the project never took off! Just like Remington to introduce a cartridge, it ussually is doomed to fail! 5mm though is a great cartridge, I will build a custom single one day! cheers Dale Z
 
The HMR had huge success due to keeping with the parent WMR case and keeping within the same pressure. The 5mm operates at much higher pressure and is its own design. I can't see the market for "another" $20.00/box rimfire when it is covered by WMR and HMR.
 
we have been hearing reports of this down here in america aswell! i know a dealer personaly who actualy has 15,000 rounds of this stuff just sitting in the back of his shop! he cant sell it, because not very mainy of the rifles where made, and there was not a real heavy interest in them! some say savage arms, and remington is going to remake rifles in this caliber! i however would be opting out, because i allready have invested enough into .22lr, .22mag, and .17hmr!!!! i was going to jump on the .17machII but when i saw the ammo price i figured uhhhhhh no thanks! and what could the machII do that my .17hmr cant lol!!!!

still trying to get my ruger 10/22magnum up to snuff using a volkquartsen .17hmr barrel, and shooters ridge 25 round mags, but it still has feeding issues! if i ever get it to feed right, i will consider it my tacticool rimfire!
 
I would like to see the 5mm and ammo availible in Canada. I have a mint shape 591 that could use some more ammo. Why are we complaining about to many rimfire choices?:eek:
 
I can get tkhis ammo as I have family on the other side of the 48th parralell no problem, but I have not seen any for sale here in Canada? I don't think there is enough guns for any large distributer to bring this round in volume, just my opinion? I wish those CZ proto type rifles were put into production, as the 5mil has alot of balls!Dale Z!

About what I figured.

You can't get it here. What you can get on the other side of the line, doesn't count.

Dunno how many guys there are holding on to those 580 series Remingtons. Every one I have seen for sale was priced in the 'stupid' range. Wouldn't mind having one, but won't, until I find one with a reasonable sticker on it. Then it gets a centerfire conversion and it's off to the gopher patch!
