On an Alberta auction site, there is a $6,000 bid for a M94 30-30 Winchester trapper with a 15 inch barrel. It is an interesting rifle - what makes it remotely worth that price? Maybe relatives bidding on it?

Obviously it is a original trapper maybe from the turn of the century if that is the case a very rare gun not many have survived. Lack of info makes it difficult to form a opinion 15” bbl makes it an original gun . If in very good condition plus no alterations value 7500-9000 United States $’s

Very interesting, I had no idea they made a Trapper model back then. That sure would make an amazing piece to have for sure!

It must be 1898 or older...

Cody museum survey up to serial #354000 (1906) on the 1894 Trapper lists,
19 - 14"
272- 15"
104- 16"
2 - 17"
12 - 18"
Not all included as production continued into late 1920's and an estimated 325 Model 92's with shorter than 18" barrels also made. There are two 92' trappers-a 14" & 15" for sale on GP for $24,000!

How do the US laws on 16 inch minimum barrel length affect those made after 1898? (pre 98 are antiques - non firearms - in the US I believe)

IIRC my one 1954 Guns & Ammo had one article on collectable Winchesters.

One sign of original shorter than normal factory barrel was the front sight integral to the barrel as a single unit.
Was one pretty good way to identify counterfiets.
