I have been playing with my 6.5-284 for about a year now and intend to take it to the long range shoot later. Last year it was fresh, and I didn't have much time to really work on loads for it. It seemed to be a bit fussy as to an accuracy load, with some very good groups, but not consistently so. One good group, two not so good. Drove me crazy. Well I left it be for the hunting season, then winter set in, etc, etc, This spring I started again, with mixed results. But I tried a new Combination the other day, and it looks like a winner. I changed from BR2 primers to the new type WLR's, and with Reloder 22, shot 4 consecutive 5-shot groups of .277", .304", .377" and .389". :D :D I am now going to load a bit more and find out if I just got lucky, or if this is the winner I have been searching for. Now if I can do the same for my 6mm Heavy.:) Regards, Eagleye.

Mark: 139 Lapua Scenar in this load. I will see if the 142 Sierra also works, just for s***s and giggles though. In my 6mm the 107 Sierra gets the nod, with the 105 Scenar next. Regards, Eagleye.

did you try H4831SC? That seems to be very popular with this cartridge.

Fed 210M may also help. Sometimes guns are just plain finicky.

Have you been measuring runout?

some barrels don't shoot well until they are truly fouled.

Have fun...

Jerry

I got a box of 142 SMK to try in my Gaillard 260, also a box of 140 AMax, will probably use H4831sc & F210M

Was tempted to order some Scenar from HirschPrecision, but figured I should wait until I see how what I got on the bench already shoots :D

Jerry, I tried the Fed 210M and 215M....did not shoot well with either. I have tried H4831 with loads in the past. Not the best groups, but maybe with the WLR it would change. I do check runout, and do not shoot any round for group with more than .0015" I shot three more groups with the RL22 load and they all went under .5", so I'm thinking that the combination is working fine. Regards, Eagleye.

Rhino; Thanks a lot!! Just an excellent bit of info on the 6.5-284. It pleased me no end to hear that my observations were supported by one of the contributors, i.e. Reloder 22 and the WLR primer are good companions. Thanks again, Eagleye.

I've had good luck with RL19 and CCI BR primers and 139 scenars Its not the hotest load, But I am hoping I will get 3000 rounds out of the barrel. I just wanted to duplicate a 260 improved I used to shoot.

With any of the bullets I am shooting, even 2700 fps keeps them supersonic at 1000yards or even 1000 meters. Speed isn't that important with a high BC, low drag bullet, since they retain velocity so well. Regards, Eagleye.

I am shooting 140gr Bergers with Vit 560, velocity is great and groups are good. RL 22 with a 142 SMK works well for me to. All loads with CCI BR primers, had and issue with RL and Federal 210M especially RL 25. Got better velocity out of the RL 25 but get better accuracy with RL 22.
