6.5 284 Norma...WTF is going on!

I cant see myself using these RDFs ever again. The 147 ELD M
Flat out DESTROYS them.

I shoot what works, period.
If a bullet or powder doesn't perform, I try another.
I have never stuck with anything that was giving me problems, especially iif I had a combination that I knew worked!

So I went out and did the Berger seating length test. With a completely stripped and clean barrel. Fired 4 foulers then started with .010 Jam. It was the best group these 140 RDFs have fired yet. 1.35 inches. All testing was done at 300 meters. The groups were all 5 shots. Then I did the jump groups...complete and udder garbage. .040, .080 and .120 were all equally bad at around 4 inches. Just to make sure this wasn't a fluke I went home and loaded 5 more at .010 Jam and 5 at .020 jam. The .020 was terrible and the .010 was around 3 inches. I don't know if it's because my barrel got dirty and needed to be scrubbed( after 30 rds???) Or because I got tired but I couldn't duplicate that initial 1.3 inch group. I will check velocities tomorrow at the range. Maybe I need to load the first 15 shots at .010 jump and the rest at .005 to compensate for fouling lol. I don't know.

Time to abandon those bullets. Barrel doesn't like them. You have already established the rifle will shoot, just not those ones. Seems like it's really the arrow not the Indian.

I have been exactly where you are now.Same bullet but in the Creedmoor. I have a stock RPR and a Krieger barreled trued up Rem 700.I went
through about 300 bullets on the two rifles and no go. My two buddies (one another RPR and the other a 6.5 x 47 custom) are beside me shooting 1" and 1 1/2" inch groups at 300 meters. I too gave up and sold 700 bullets to one of them. lol

Now I have re barreled to Benchmark and built another with a Hawk Hill barrel. Damn Cabelas, had a sale and I got another screaming deal on the RDF's. (like $357/1000 to my door) I'm gonna make them work this time. Sucker for punishment.

Just one of those things I guess. I'll fire off these last 100 and never worry about them again.

I tried them in my 6.5x47. Went from .3 groups with Hybrids to 1.5+ with the RDFs. I am sure they can shoot but the Hybrids are just so easy to load.

swissinn, boy, got that one backwards, however the best bullet is the one that performs and sometimes certain products simply don't!

Well I went out today and ran these things thru the Oehler 35P.
Tried the .010 jam again and grouped about an inch at 100M. Not very impressive. 10 shots with an ES of 20 and an SD of 6. That's not so bad. First round hits from 300m to 900m on 12x12 gongs. So I don't think it's my reloading techniques either. Avg run out was about a thou on a loaded round. Velocity was 2960 fps. I've waddled down to about 75 of them now so if anybody wants them let me know lol. I'll not be using them ever again.

Try Lapua 136gr Scenar-L

Lapua's G7 number of .274 I found to be quite low. I'm using a G7 of .370.

The Nosler 140gr RDF was the first time I ever threw out bullets that were given to me.
