Anyone have any good loading data for a 6.5 by 284 with either a 120 gr or 140 grain bullet. Just starting to reload for my new rifle. Plan to use it for some long range prairie dog shooting in South Dakota.

My go to load its hot, to hot for some rifles.
I use lapua brass, lapua 139gr bullets, 50.5 grains of RL22, win LR primer.
I use this in a Savage Model 12 F-Class rifle.
This is above recommended MAX!!

yes N165 works good but I have had good luck with 48.0 grains of H-4350 and a 142 SMK kissing lands and Fed GMM Primers, CCI Brs will work as well but not as good in my guns. Also Either Nosler cases, or lapua.

Nosler is making one heck of a good piece of brass and very uniform, I think Norma makes it for them.

6.5-284

Brass, use Win, Norma or Lapua
Powder, H4831...51 to52gr. Start 10% lower and work up, watching for pressure signs.
Bullet, Sierra, 140 or 142gr match
OAL, about 0.010 into the lands.
Chamber, if you have a custom chamber with a tight neck then neck turning will be required.

Enjoy Bill

useing H 4831 51gr and 140 lapuas 1thou off lance thats my load and getting 2950 through chrono but my barrel is 28in also hope that helps

X2

Except I used the bergers but am planning on switching to the lapuas. Hope they work, already have 1000 of them sitting in the shop.

The bergers worked great but had problems getting them and they cost more as well. Also the BC is aparently not as good as they once claimed according to bergers new BC tests.

I have also used 53.5 grns of IMR 7828SSC and the sierra 140's with good results.
