Can a 6.5 CM be rechambered to 6.5 Remington magnum? I have been looking for a 6.5 RM rifle for over 20 years, thinking of having one made.

What Rifle? I'm going to say yes. Anything can be done with enough money. I'm thinking rebarrelling a rifle that starts out with a short action magnum caliber already would be cheaper. Wouldn't have to modify bolt or magazine.

Lets say a Rem 783 is chambered someday in 6.5 CM. A magnum magazine already exists. Magnum bolt face exists. Or just rebarrell my 350 rem mag.

Good question I would like to know as well. I would go with a 700 VTR in 260 chambered to 6.5 rem mag. That must have been done before. There is still an ad on the EE for a 660 in 6.5 RM for $675...

I've been looking for 5 years myself and may have to rechamber too. Just been able to find ammo...

If you can handle the recoil from that little mule go for it. Cheaper in the long run and ready to go. 6.5 RMs are nasty throat burners so you need to be careful when purchasing a used one. There was a decent custom Winchester Mod 70 at the Victoria show in Saanich, so chambered. It looked good and I was tempted. I asked to handle it, pulled the bolt and looked down the bore. The leade was pushed ahead by at least 2 inches.

OP, sounds like you want to do this build on the CHEAP. NO SUCH THING when making major changes to customize a rifle unless you have the tools and ability to do the work yourself.

Best bet is a Wsm or saum gun and rebarrel, everything will work. I was gonna do that with a 700xcr but found a different action and ended trading it and piecing together a 6.5rm. I was in the same boat, have a couple 260 Rem but wanted more zing.
I didn't do anything till I found some ammo, never shot any of it though a I reload since it was finished. Nice stash Shakleford mine are 120's.
Look at Nosler data, the RM has some legs on the Norma - and does it in a SA.
