Hi All,

Finally got all the parts for my new 6.5 creed build, but i'm curious about where to set the headspace. I ask this because the headspace on my 6.5 Bergara B-14 seems a bit excessive, to get 20 thousandths off the lands I need a COAL of 2.850 (using 140gr ELD-M). With that cartridge length bullets won't feed out of an my MDT AICS mags, so I'm wondering if I should pull back the headspace to give me more breathing room... Not much, maybe like 20-25 thousandths.

Thoughts?

FYI Build info:
Pristine Action
JC Barrel prefit
MDT ACC chassis

Also found this article which seems to support that a bit less headspace can help with accuracy

I don't have any go/no-go gauges, but I can make my own based on the headspace I want...

But I'm starting to think maybe i should keep the same headspace as the Bergara, and just upgrade my mags to metal MDT mags

"2.870” max cartridge overall length (COAL) with binder plate"

Headspace and throat (distance to lands) are two different measurements as far as I know.
Headspace is measured off the shoulder of the cartridge or gauge.

You're correct, I was thinking of the lands and seating depth, has nothing to do with headspace... :bangHead:

So I guess for headspace I'll just copy what I have for my Bergara

Why are you going to duplicate the Bergara chamber unless it is especially accurate, which most of them aren't.

If you're using an existent reamer and you own it, send it to someone to grind the throat portion to cut a .266 throat.

I went so far with a 6.5x55 reamer for an F class rifle with a 30 inch, 1-7.5 twist rate and 1.25 diameter, fluted to cut a .265 throat all the way to the leades. It shoots like a lazer and I don't have to be especially careful with run out, etc.

Some cringe when I mention the dimensions, but it works for Tikka and it works for me.
