I've spent a bit of time looking around and can't seem to get an answer for what I'm looking for so I just thought I'd throw a line out there and see what the lovely people of this forum have for me.

I'm looking at purchasing a rifle in a 6.5 Creedmoor, and I've heard some rumblings that they can be used in Southern Ontario because they fall under the caliber restrictions. Does anyone know if this is the case?

Thanks in advance for any help, and I'm sorry if this is a repost!

I think the caliber borderline is .277 ( .270 Win) and the 6.5 ( .264)is smaller than that , but I may be wrong, it seems that most of Southern Ontario is shotgun these days from what I have been told.
Best to read the regulations themselves for the area you want to hunt in.

The .275 rule falls under small game hunting regs and only in listed wmus, not applicable for target shooting or general rifle season on big game. I doubt it will be changed for 2020 so you can get an idea by reading the 2019 regs. You're fine with .264 currently

Please clarify, you guys have a maximum caliber restriction there? Or are you asking if it meets the minimum requirement? Only asking because I have never heard of a maximum caliber restriction, only minimum. Thank you

Apparently the lawmakers of long ago thought southern Ontario resembled a can of sardines and that we all stood shoulder to shoulder. The law was brought to light to curb the use of solid point military 30/303 calibre ammo from being used and shot thru barns and cows and whatnot. I don't believe they thought it thru much because of the 6.5 military calibres also being readily available even at that time. I can't use my 35Rem or 44 carbine on groundhogs but can blast away with a 270 Weatherby if I so choose. Anything 7mm/280 and above is prohibited for HUNTING. You can poke holes in paper with anything lawfully allowed. Highway 89 is roughly the dividing line if I'm not mistaken.

Depends on the local bylaws. A number of municipalities in SWO took the .275 caliber restriction and turned that into a bylaw for general discharge. So in those municipalities you also can’t punch paper with anything over .275, unless you are at a range.
