Hey all,

So looking online, there are a lot more recipes for the .260 Rem than there are for the 6.5 Creedmoor. Most articles I've read on ballistic comparisons of the two cartridges say they're pretty much identical.

So looking at the powder I already have on hand (currently Varget and H1000), I'd like if possible to not have to buy a third type. I've found lots of Varget recipes for the 6.5 Creedmoor, but they appear to underperform in velocity compared to other powders pushing a heavier 6.5 calibre projectile. On the other hand, while I've found almost no H1000 recipes for the 6.5 Creedmoor, I've found some with very good estimated velocities for the .260 Rem.

Can you use these 2.60 Rem recipes as a start point for working up a 6.5 Creedmoor load? Obviously start at the minimum and work up, but are there other considerations or risks I should take into account?

Just to cite one example, from the Hodgon website here's an H1000 recipe for the .260, could that work for a .260 Creedmoor?

.260 Rem
Hodgdon H1000,
.264" Nosler Partition 140 gr
2.780" OAL

Minimum : 48.0 grains H1000, Vel 2,619 fps, 51,200 PSI

Maximum : 50.5 grains H1000, Vel 2,730 fps, 57,000 PSI

Thanks all!

As with all things, yes and no. What is the case capacity of 6.5CM? What is the case capacity of 260Rem? That is just for starters. H1000 is a slow burning magnum powder probably not suitable for the 6.5. Bottom line is no, you cannot use load tables for the .260 for the 6.5! Yes, you can use SOME of the other powders used in the .260 such as 4895, 4350, and Varget - and NO you cannot use the 260 loading data with them either.

6.5cm holds about 1gr less water then 260rem.
H1000 in 260rem with a 140gr pill is compressed at around 45gr, it's 110% case capacity at 50gr, so not really the best choice for the 6.5cm.
The 4350's seem like the best fit according to Nosler data.
