What is your opinion of the 6.5 Grendel round , pros / cons . i have no experience with this round and was offered a rifle in this for a good price and i was interested to hear what people think of this round .

I was rather ho hum about it until I saw what it is capable of first hand. Watching the last 2 years Alberta PRS matches and seeing a couple of shooters running semi auto rifles in traditionally a bolt gun game was interesting. Finding out the 1 was running a 6.5 Grendel stunned me as she had no issues at hammering the gongs at 600 meters.
Seeing some video of this same little lady knocking down a nice mule doe at over 300 yards is what pushed me into building a 6.5 Grendel of my own on a Modern Varmint platform. I think we will see alot more of this cartridge with the Modern Sporters and SLR release.

I assembled a 6.5 Grendel on a MDI SLR receiver. I love this cartridge and have to think that if it was introduced prior to the x39 and 5.56, there woudl not have been a need for either of the cartridges. :)

Capable of killing deer at 400 yards, mild recoil, great ballistics, great bullets and all fits in a compact package. What's not to like?

I think it's the most versatile SAAMI AR compatible cartridge available. Suitable for deer hunting up to 350 - 400 yards. Decent BC .264 projectiles available for target shooting (123gr Scenars :dancingbanana:) and comparable recoil to 7.62x39. The big drawback is that commercial ammo availability in Canada is poor....and the ammo that is available is typically $30-35 a box. On top of that, to really take advantage of the cartridge and some of the projectiles available you need to reload, imo. Which brings me to my next point, brass cost and availability. There's really only Starline, Lapua and Hornady brass around and it's not cheap in comparison to some other calibers. Looking at my reloading costs, 6.5 Grendel is double the cost of reloading 75gr 223 or pretty much on par with 308 Win.
