Does anyone here reload for this caliber or has it gone obsolete? I have 14 shells in a box I recently acquired and wondered if anyone shoots this caliber. Box is an old Dominion, these are 160 grain. I remember my father had one and said it was a very accurate gun. He sold it around the time I was born. He passed away two months ago and I found this box while cleaning out his hunting stuff. The box says its also known as 6.5x53 M-Sch, 6.5x54 M-Schn and 6.7mm M-Schn. Any info would be helpful, Thanks in advance.

I owned a 6.5x54 M-S in the 50's, when I was first hunting muleys in the Shuswap area of BC.

I had just starting reloading at the time, but did not load for the M-S, since Dominion ammo was readily available and inexpensive.
IIRC, that old 160 grain RN was advertised at 2160 fps, and let me tell you, it penetrated very well.
I shot 3 muleys with it, all fair bodied bucks, and never recovered one slug....all were passthroughs.

The bucks all died within 50 yards, so I had no complaints. It is a mild, effective chambering, that has almost disappeared into obscurity.
Odd sized case, as well, so cannot easily form it from other brass.

Sometimes I wish I still had that old 6.5 though. It held some neat memories.
Regards, Dave.

I picked up a sporterized military M-S from a fellow on CGN several years ago "just because". It had been restocked - stock was from a well-known but now long-gone US company whose name I can't remember now - and also rebarrelled, probably because the old barrel was shot out. I got some brass and some 160 gn bullets and found it wouldn't shoot worth squat. Turned out the barrel twist wasn't the original 1:9 (?) but as I recall, about 1:14, so it would only stabilize 140gn. "One of these days" I need to get it back together and try refinishing the stock, get a new nosecap, sights etc. Of course if I were really keen I'd get it rebarrelled with the proper twist... Wonderful design, famous of course for the rotary spool magazine.

When I was in Reliable Gun & Tackle in Vancouver a couple of years ago I was chatting to the owner and he went down in the basement and brought up his beautiful M-S 6.5 sporter. What a joy to behold. One of his sons also has one.

To the OP, pity your dad didn't keep that rifle! You'd have a real classic.

:) Stuart

Just trying to decide what to do with this box of ammo. I saw Ellwood Epps had a box of 19 for 60 bucks! Thats what these are Dave 2160 fps Dominion. I thought someone would be able to resize the brass, but as Dave said they are hard to resize, thats the info I was looking for. Thanks Dave
