6.5 most popular bullets ?

Got to add my voice to the chorus of praise for the 140 grn Nosler Partition--I used it this last season and it was the Angel of Death on everything from coyotes (so accurate I felt confident taking head shots @ stationary ones out to 150 yards), and BIG mule deer. Goes off like a bomb inside the chest, and exits cleanly.

I've had excellent accuracy results with the 129 TSX seated out as far as it'll go, but have yet to shoot anything but paper with this load.

The one bullet I _couldn't_ get my M38 to shoot well was the 160 grain Hornady round tip. The lousy BC doesn't help, but even without the big drop, these suckers were all over the paper.

For powder I like RL 19, and got the best accuracy about midway between my starting and max loads.

the ag42 used a 139 gr bullet. The bolt guns used the 160.

I believe:redface: correct me if I'm wrong

some M38's were designed for 139 grain bullets, many original rifles still have the brass conversion table on the stock next to the disc. The rifles still had the sights for the 156G bullet so the table was used to adjust aim.

I have one with the converson table on the stock, it's pretty much mint.

David Basiji's Swedish mauser FAQ web site used to be the bible site for swede knowledge. His site is not up but you can do a search and find his email pretty easy. If you are polite he might send you some of his writings, he a proffessor at washington state and has some neat ballistics stuff to.

Yes, many M38s have stock decals to adjust for the 139 grain round and vise versa some have decals to adjust for the 160! The sight it self will have I think a T for torped or something to tell you what round it is for.

My favorite rifle is a Husky 1941 with the sights for the 156 grain bullet.
I also have a 1902 gustaf with the fine micrometer sights that are calibrated for the 140 grain round.

There is alot of joy in a rifle that is calibrated perfectly from 100 to 600 yds!
If you load to the correct velocity and have a range finder you can do simply amazing things with a swede in full military dress. Just remember to tighten the cleaning rod really tight because it is a MECHANICAL BEDDING DEVICE. A swede with out the rod is only half a rifle.

Another interesting thing about the 160 grain round is that it was designed to be the most efficient smokeless powder round (may still be). i.e you get more foot lbs of energy per grain of powder in a 6.5x55 then any other cartridge.

160 grain Hornady

I've had excellent accuracy in several commercial rifles with the 160 Hornady. I've read of others having good luck with the Sierra 160 as well.

I still think the 140 Partition is the best heavy game bullet for the Swede and the 125 Partitions or 129 grain Hornady are simply great deer/caribou bullets.

I should probably use one bullet/load for everything but I enjoy switching around sometimes.

Hornady 140gr spire point and TSS are shooting under MOA in my Winchester FWT.
X2 for the sp bullets shoot very well in my tikka, and flatten deer seems to be a good combo with the 6.5x55 velocity.
and my 264 loves 120 Nosler Bts at faster velocity.
