Had 12 rds left over from the Farky shoot so took the 6.5 Mystic out to see what it would do at 200yds today.

Weather was damp, around 5C, quite calm. Good fall morning.

After cleaning and 6 fouling shots to warm things up, I shot 3 overlapping. Shot 4 went a bit high. I adjusted (held low) and promptly drove shot 5 low. Settled down and put shot 6 into the same cluster as the first three.

That 4 rds cluster groups 0.298" C to C. With the high shot, group grows to 3/4". With all shots, 1 1/4". Not bad.

The barrel has digested 1600 to 1700rds so far. The accuracy is still excellent minus driver errors. The smaller case is certainly giving me longer accurate barrel life.

Will do more testing next spring in preparations for the competition season but don't expect to see much changing. Been a very stable set up with no changes in seating depth or powder charge so far.

I think 2500rds is achieveable before setting back the pipe. For me, the rifle has to maintain 1/2MOA or less over 20rds (shot in 10mins) to be considered accurate for F class. 1/2" to 3/4" at 200yds would be ideal.

If I start getting flyers consistently, then I will consider the barrel ready for setting back.

It would be best if you started seeing those fliers in the middle of the next match I attend. Takes some of the pressure off! Regards, Bill.
 
Leeper, wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened. I was thinking the barrel was cooked when I got some bizarre hits and that 9.

However, I can't blame the rifle anymore. Just the nut behind the wheel who can't read the winds or just pulls a shot.

You know you could pull a shot here and there too :)

What do you do when the mirage at the top of the target stand goes one way and the mirage at the bottom goes another?
