I took my new Tikka TX3 CTR out for the first time today.
I loaded up 5 per group with a total of 4 groups. First try and wow.View attachment 534784

Hornady eld x 143 g
RL 25
CCI LRP magnum
Nosler brass.

All four of the 5 rnd groups were sub MOA.
100 yard groups.
The second and last group were the best.

I messed up on the last shot of the last group because I stopped after 4 rounds,to let the barrel cool down.
Still a good group though.

It was showing a bit of pressure signs though.
A very slight case head swipe and a barely noticeable ring around the base.
I can see this leading to a case head separation eventually.
So , what’s your thoughts?

I would work in 3 shot .2 gn increases between the second and last group. When you start to see signs stop. There will likely be something in that area that will be a tight group. 57.0 is max on Hornadys web site.
55.6-57.9 is a pretty big spread

Sorry but that’s 57 grain.
To bad it was showing those very small pressure signs.
It looked to be the one.
I’ll work around the second load and maybe work down from max

Thanks

Sorry I read it as 57.9
Try starting at 56 and go up. I had a 22-250 load that would open up if I went up or down .2 on the powder. Last group is nice for sure.

Yes, that’s what I’ll do.
I paused for a couple of minutes before taking that last shot.. I could’ve cried.. lol

I’ve been chasing that 1/2 minute group for years, lots of difference calibers, lots of $$$.
And boom, first test, first bullet choice, first powder choice.

It’s so addicting.. lol

My Christensen Traverse in 6.5PRC produced a three shot average of .355" for three groups, with the Factory Hornady Precision Hunter load, so I started with the 143eldx and R26, and three shot groups are averaging about the same as the factory load, but 80fps faster. Using ADG cases, and the Fed 210M, I ended up at 57gr at 3050 fps for a final load.

Hey RJ, I just put 5 rnds over the chrony average is 2780.
143 eld x ,57 g RL 25,CCI LRP magnum.
Col 2950.
Hornady lists 3050 FPS out of 26 inch barrel.
I’m using a 22 inch barrel.
270 FPS loss for 4 inches of barrel seems like a lot.

how far off the lands are you? In my 6.5 PRC, 24" barrel gets me 2950 fps with 53grs RL26, I am .030" off lands

I’m about 73 thous off the lands.
I just tryed book data and it’s sub MOA,
Would seating closer to lands add more speed?
I thought it worked the other way, as in my compressed load would be faster.

24" on first and 23" on second. i am not at home but I did try the eldx with r26, I just can't remember offhand the loads or speed.
