6.5 prc

The 338 is a good combo to have with the 6.5 in my opinion.
Spending money on quality gear to have an easier time with your job and free time is always worth it.
You won’t ever regret it.
Honestly it won’t hurt to throw Kimber a call, maybe they are planning something for this next year. Doesn’t hurt to ask.
Worst comes to worst you could probably pick up a wsm Kimber and order up a barrel to be delivered to a trusted Smith and get it built up while your gone.

Honestly a .270 can be handled by most people, even getting that braked it would be a beauty gun to get behind.
I get why Nolan wants a PRC though in comparison to a .270. The short action (weight), superior ballistics for mountain hunting (flat shooting) and commercial ammo availability make it the cartridge ideal for that kind of hunt. I’m interested in it that’s for sure
so would that be a 338 over 6.5 or visa versa? :D

@Mr. Friendly

I was meaning contact kimber to ask if they are planning on doing a production run chambering the 6.5 in a montana or mountain ascent.
338 would be a stopper rifle where maybe weight isn't of a huge concern and you want a bit more firepower and bullet diameter to potentially put more of a world of hurt on something.
the 6.5 would be a good light weight mountain/or deep travel gun. Just a different flavour.
my response was tongue in cheek, FB, just some friendly ribbing. ;)

PRC just doesn't disappoint. Had 11 rounds left of my latest batch of 143gr ELD-X (53.8grs RL26)

3 @ 200y to check zero. 1" group (0.48moa), +1" high. Clicked down 1/2moa and reset zero on Vx5 CDS ZL2

Next four @ 521 yards. First 3 shots landed in 0.3moa

Let it cool and moved target back to 640 yards and fired 3 which landed spot on in a 4.5" group (0.67 moa)

Had one round left and let fly at 752 yard target, bullet landed 2.5" high and 0.5" left. So awesome

It's more about the bullets. At 200 and 300 yards, my savage long range hunter in 6.5x284 can shoot better than 0.5 all day long. The bullet is also eld-x

2113 fps @ 640. The ELD is rated down to 1800 fps which should be around 900 yards (3000' elevation / 10c air temp)
