Hello guys, I got a sportized Swdish Mauser a little over 4 months ago as my new hunting rifle. I like the caliber and the set up it currently runs. see through ring with irons and a bushnell fixed 10x. I don't want to change that part but the stock it currently wears just doesn't feel right to me. I was just wondering if you would be able to suggest a different stock. It has the Carl Gustafs stamp crown. I was looking for stocks and they ask for "Will NOT fit Large-Ring Swedish M38/M96 6.5x55 or Small-Ring Mausers (Spanish M1916 .308). Must CONVERT BOLT to fit straight bolt or "wide-arc" bolt. Straight bolt or ?wide-arc? bolt Mausers must convert to bent bolt to use a rifle scope"


Just wondering what this rifle would be, large ring vs small ring. And any suggestions for stocks, something on the lighter side would be nice.

From what you describe, you have a M/94/96/38 variant - most likely a M/94 with swept down bolt handle, the M/96 have a straight bolt handle and the M/38 was not manufactured by CG.
Just make sure you don't take a stock for a small ring 98 (ex. Brno), as the action screw patter is not the same as for the pre-98 actions..

A large ring Mauser (M/98) have a bigger front receiver ring (you can see a step).
 
The reason it feel unfomfortable is the see thru rings. You can't get a good cheek weld. Change to the lowest rings that will keep the scope off the barrel.

For most kinds of hunting, the scope is too powerful. It would be a good golpher scope.

I suggest somehting like a 2-7 zoom in lower rings. That should fee much better.

See thru rings are dangerous. If you use the iron sights you have no idea where the scope is. It might be 1/2" from your head. Ouch!

And it you are in a tree stand, maybe double ouch. Not a mistake I have made, but I have learned the lesson from the guy who did.
 
Got a Bell and Carlson for one of my bubba'd M96's. Not a bad stock at all, a little short on length of pull, 13 1/4" IIRC, but handles well.

I agree with the previous ^ advise, ...... Lose the see-throughs and high powered scope.

Swedes are awesome shooters.

1. Small Ring Mauser® - Receiver measures 1 1/4" on the front receiver ring and 7 5/8" center to center
on the trigger guard screws. Fits most models: 93, 94, 95 & 96 rifles and carbines.
2. Large Ring Mauser® - Receiver measures 1 3/8" on the front receiver ring and 7 7/8" center to center
on the trigger guard screws. Includes most large ring actions as well as the Centurion FN, Parker Hale 1200,
Interarms Mark X, and the Santa Barbara.
3. Yugo Mauser® - Receiver measures 1 3/8" on the front receiver ring and 7 5/8" center to center
on the trigger guard screws. Includes M48, M48a & M24 Yugoslavian.
Bolt cut will also need to be rasped in.
