6.5 swede tikka t3 powder and pet loads?

just looking to get back at reloading and am looking for some tips and choices on this rig, a good starting point....deer mainly is gonna be the quarry
 
All loads 3 shots at 100 yards using Win brass /Fed mag primers...............130gr Sirocco II-47gr RE#22 group .197" 140gr Hornady SP-47gr RE#22 group .736" 46gr RE#22-Hornady 129gr group .593" 140gr Partition-47gr group .632" this is my son's standard load killed many deer ,moose,elk and black bear. All from a SS T3
 
45-46 Rl22 (HIL) for 160 grains.

46.5 grains Rl 22 (Nosler Prtition) , 46 grains H4350 (NABLR), 47 grains H4831sc (HIL) for 140-142 grains bullets.

46 grains H100V (SST), 46 grains IMR4350 (HIL), 48 grains H4831sc (Accubond) with 129-130 grains.

All these are moa or better, sometimes 0.5 moa.
 
For shooting through two moose and a fire hydrant I use either 42gr of N-204 or IMR 4350 in Winchester brass with a Fed or CCI mag primer and a 156-160 gr bullet.Never found a bullet in game yet regardless of angle and you can eat right up to the bullet hole.
 
I use GOOD 140 grain bullets for everything, other than Coyotes.

I use Lapua brass, CCI 250 magnum primers over 51.0 grains of IMR7828sc.

Velocity is just over 2800fps, and if I do my part, 1/2 moa is a consistent grouping at 100 yds.

There are others on this site, that use the same load in their T3 rifles as well and they all report similar results.

T3s are quite forgiving of everything, except neglect.

Other powders that worked well, with the same bullet weight, cases and primers were

54.0 grains of RL25, which gave slightly faster velocities but the accuracy opened up to over an inch.

49.0 grains of RL22 which gave appx the same velocity but accuracy was again, over an inch

53.5 grains of H1000 which gave appx the same velocity but accuracy was inconsistent and the load had to be compressed more than I like to.

H1000 works best when it's compressed, IMHO.

These loads won't be found in any manuals and are DANGEROUS IN Swede milsurps.

Depending on which primers you use, they will flatten after firing.

CCI 250 primers do flatten a bit, but don't flow.

Pressures are around 60,000psi, which is well within the constraints of the T3
 
YMMV load develop at your own risk, watch for pressure signs. A pet load 140SST, 48.7gn H4831SC, WLR, Win Brass @ ~2750fps 20thou off the lands, the T3 has a long throat. Plenty of room in the LA Magazine.
 
Iv been running the same rifle for a number of years now. It shoots pretty much any 130-140 grain bullet well I found. I settled on 140gr Accubonds with 47gr of R22 and lapua brass. I have a handful of these targets from times I did my part. I have my barrel cut to 19” and avg 2625 fps.

 
A timely thread for me - I have a stock of Norma "Golden Target" 130 grain - I am under the impression that the moly version is what is used by FSR in Sweden for 300 and 600 meter competitions. Obviously not suited for hunting - so I have a much smaller stock of 130 grain Accubond. I am optimist that my several former mil-surp 6.5x55 Swedes will react to both about the same. Currently have a CG63 in the stand getting a 12X Leupold set in - hoping at least that one will like the combination... I have previously fired Norma brass, and some selection of primers - but have not yet settled on a powder - so watching this thread for ideas.

DO NOT USE THE LOADS IN THE REPLIES BELOW IN AN M38-M94-M96-CG63. They are well beyond the acceptable pressure levels for those rifles.

For the CG63 (actually made for Remington, with a 1-9 twist), with 130 grain Sierra MK HPBT, I used a very old but very accurate, off hand match load.

37.0 grains of IMR4064 over CCI250 primers, giving appx 2400fps from the 28 inch barrel.

I bought that rifle out of a Herter's catalogue many moons ago. It was basicly a CG63, built in Sweden for Remington. Lovely rifle with a great trigger.

I shot that rifle a lot, enough to push the leade forward about an inch.

By that time, off hand shoots were few and far between, so I put a new barrel on it, chambered for 7x57 Mauser, simply because components were always available.

I gave that rifle to a now deceased, good friend in my area. I have no idea what happened to it after he passed. Likely his WOKE wife turned it into the local RCMP.

I'm currently using D4350 from Canada Ammo, and bought 5 lbs of D4895, but have yet to try it. Great accuracy with the D4350, at almost identical charges to IMR4350. Unfortunately, they are sold out of both presently, and with their latest 25% off sale, and lack of stock in every department makes me wonder if they may be closing their doors. Very sad if that is the case, I have bought a fair bit of stuff from them over the years, and it has all been good value.
 
This is a timely thread for me. I presently have a t3 6.5x55 en route to me. I will be trying 140gr eldm first. Powers used will be 6.5 staball and 7828 since I have a good supply of both and both seem to be readily available. I plan on cci magnum primers. Hopefully can have everything by the weekend and maybe get to the range.
