My old man has:

A 6.5 x 55 Norwegian/Swedish? Krag, it's been "sporterized/chopped" and at least 6 boxes of hunting ammunition.

He also has a 1898 30-40 Krag that's been restocked with a sporter type stock with dies.

Any opinions on what these items are worth?

It all depends on how well the job was done.

The Norwegian Krags are slightly different from their American counterparts but they are both butter smooth.

They are usually quite accurate, with decent ammo.

The Norwegian Krags are under appreciated in Canada and yes, as mentioned they start at $250 or less. The vast majority of them have badly pitted bores as well.

The American Krag, is another story. Again, depending on condition they start around $350

Bought mine for $140.00 so that's a good place to start. Most have dark bores, and date all over the time frame they were made. Meaning they were sportered from many models of krag rifles. Some are better than others, most all have the same chopped military stock.

Pete

Be careful on the Norwegian Krag's. Lot's of them were traded off the boats here in Newfoundland. They were usually pretty worn. Make sure to have a good look at it.
