I have a sporterized (not by me) 1903 Greek mannlicher. The bore is completely corroded away. I have access to a 6.5 ms reamer and I was thinking for rebarreling it. I was hoping to do it up to shoot the lighter 6.5 bullets. I know the original load is 160grs but with the proper twist could I get an 85 or 90grs up into the 3000's safely. I see some speedy 6.5 Swedish loads. Anyone ever played around with the 6.5 Mannlicher? I would imagine original ones wouldn't be twisted for light bullets?

I have a similar rifle, re chambered to 6.5x57.

I can easily get 2800fps with imr7828ssc with 140 grain SST bullets. Have to use magnum primers

Your action is stronger than earlier milsurps , such as m95 Mauser

You may not have enough powder capacity? to get the velocities you want.

Should be able to get very close.

I have an original 6.5 MS carbine. Nice little rifle. Can't say I have ever tried it with anything lighter than 125 gr bullets. Grouping was ok with those. There is not a lot of case capacity for pushing your chosen bullets to 3k. If you go light enough I suppose you could. a 1-10 twist should work fine for most bullets. - dan

I expect you will easily get 3000fps with a 90 gr bullet. But I wonder what a 3000fps 90 gr bullet will do for you in a 6.5mm. Coyote gun maybe. Too light for hunting anything else. Probably not a target round either. As a plinker it has no advantage over heavier bullets.
