Anybody use these?

Im gonna try loading some in my 260 Remington, for some informal 300-600 yard shooting.

I also have some 140 Amax & 142 MatchKing loads to try tommorow...

the BC on the 107 (.420) is low compared to the 140 class bullets (.550-.580), but it will have a higher muzzle velocity (maybe 3100 fps+, compared to 2700 fps+). I realize the 107 will drift more in the wind past 500y, but I might as well give em a try. :)

I see Lapua has a 108 gr. Scenar, great BC on that of .478, and a 123 gr. Scenar with a BC of .547 :D Might try some someday, should fly pretty well...

mine loves the 140 Sierra Matchkings. It hated Bergers, and the Amax's ran alright but I get groups in the .3-.5's all day with the Sierras.

Did bring in some scenars to try from ### though.

Cheers,
Craig

with those 107 grn MK bullets, you may need a special chamber, as in short throat, to get their real potential. Most of the chambers out there seem to be throated for 160gr bullets seated way out. bearhunter

my 260 has a custom barrel with a short throat, it wont even chamber factory ammo

I have loaded some 107s a hair off the lands @ 2.83", over Varget

hopefully it is calm tommorow!

I've used them in a 264 magnum out to 250yds on steel targets and the accuracy was good (targets were 3" high and 1" wide)and I hit them more often than not
Havent used them in quite sometime but I think I was pushing them with IMR 4350,IMR AND H-4831
I have since replaced that 264 with another and have yet to try ANY handloads out of this rifle ,let alone any 107's.
Like your 260,the last 264 also had a short throat and would not chamber older gevelot 160g factory loads.
Good luck and keep us posted on how they fly.

I have shot a zillion 6.5 139 grain Scenars, but not their lighter ones.
The Seirras are laser beams in my son's 6.5'284 however!
I have been told by those that know hoever, that the 107 Match Kings and the lapuas may act differently becuase of the their diameters.
I think I have some , will have to check myself!

Craig, some barrels are very particular. Did you try to seat the Berger VLDs into the lands 0.015-.030? The VLDs seem to perform the best with good contact into the lands. Also, just out of curiosity, what distance were you shooting?

A few guys won't use the 107's on 400m turkey's (in silhouette) due to wind drift.
I'm not sure what the problem would be with drift, but I don't think I would want to use the 107 for sihouettes anyway!
There are a number of good bullets in the 120 range which would give more weight for thr Turkeys and rams.

I shot the 107s today in my 260 Remington, at 300 yards.

Managed a 2.7" group, with a average muzzle velocity of 3168 fps. ES of 42 fps on 6 shots. (Varget/F210M)

140 Amax over H4831sc did 1.8" 3 shot, average speed of 2759 fps, ES of 22 fps over 6 shots

142 Sierra MK over H4831sc did 3.14" 3 shot @ 300y, avg chrony of 2773 fps, ES on 6 shots was 49 fps

even though it was calm today, there was a pretty good mirage going :(

Hi Joe,

Got that order by the way ;)

Was shooting them just touching the lands, and didn't spend much time on them after the Sierra started to shoot so well.

Best group was 2.5" at 250 yards. Not bad, but nothing close to the .3-.5 moa with Sierras.

After I try the scenars you sent, I may order another batch of VLDs to try from you.

Cheers,
Craig

That 260 is a light varmint isnt it???
Still, sounds not too bad for starting.Start tweaking and the coyotes will pay hell this season.

yes, basically like a LVSF (23" Gaillard tube 1:8 twist)

I wont be using these 107s or any match bullet for that matter on yotes/wovles, as Ive used the 107s few years ago with terrible results (no expansion at all - costed me a yote and nearly costed me a wolf). That was in my previous 260, a LSS Mtn rifle, shot the 107s over RL15 for 2860 fps and great accuracy.

I use the 95 gr. Vmax @ 3315 fps for predators when I want a break from my 223 :D

Craig - definitely get some pressure into the lands!! Regards, Joe

I'm finding my 260's seem to like slightly slower powders than the standar 308's, especially with the heavier bullets. RL19's been a winner so far.

are you gonna try the Bergers?
They list a BC of .640 for the 140gr pill
That's not much short of the .338 250gr scenar. 0.035 short in fact
