ok im new to all this id like to know what everyone think about a rifle in 6.5x47 cal tell me your pro/con's

Pro: *Excellent for 600 Meter competition and even to 1000. Inherently very accurate. Excellent X-course and F-class cartridge.
*good overbore index = good barrel life
*low recoil
*You can make a 6-6.5X47 with the brass!!! :)

Con *Not enough horsepower for driving highest BC bullets well
*Brass is proprietary and has had issues with neck uniformity
*many anecdotal reports of it being finicky and difficult to make work (But many other reports of exceptional accuracy and many record shoots made with it)

The Lapua will do what the 260Rem does, but need much higher pressures and longer barrels.

As a shorter distance or lighter bullet/reduced recoil choice, sure. Which was its original design intent anyways.

For pushing the heavies in 6.5 cal, case is simply too small. Bore life is better then the 6.5-284 but likely not as good as a moderate pressure 6.5 Swede/260R. 'Fast' powders run at very high pressures are erosive.

If you are looking for the best in ballistics in this case volume, the 6mm derivatives will do more especially with newer powders.

It is very popular right now and written up in many magazines, however, in commercial actions, it is not the end all. Case volume ultimately determines performance. Accuracy is very similar in all of these case volumes from the 6.5 BR, Lapua to the 284.

Pick the bullet, barrel length and the speed you want to travel at. This will determine the case volume you need for best effect.

All brass manfs have their lemons and some recent Lapua lots aren't so good. However, Lapua does make excellent products so this is likely a short term problem.

But will always cost significantly more then other brands.

Think of the 6.5 x 47 L as a cartridge designed to beat the 6mmBR because this is what it was conceived to do. It was not designed to beat the 260 or 6.5 x 284. Mine is performing well and has not been hard to get a load that works. In fact, during limited time testing I came up with 2 match quality loads using different powders. I believe I can now match the 6mmBR's when I learn to shoot and read the wind better. The lot of brass I just bought and measured is as good as the last batch of Lapua 308 brass I bought just before rebarreling so I think that issue is behind us. It is certainly better than any 260 brass on the market. This is a distinct class of performance and it is possible to exceed it but the price will be increased recoil and reduced barrel life. I find mine to be easy on the shoulder and ears with a barrel life that will exceed the 6mmBR, super 6's (6XC or 6 x 47 L), 260, and 6.5 x 284 from what I have read. I feel it is an ideal compromise. BTW, this cartridge will shoot the 123, 130, and yes the 140 grain bullets with the same drop to a 1000 while the windage favours the 140's. I have tested the 123's to my satisfaction and now am starting to play with the 140's. The "best" choice appears to be the 130 Berger but haven't found any yet to test. Unfortunately, due to family issues, I can't shoot in the BC Regionals after they switched weekends so I won't have any real match results until later in August, however, I am really keen on the cartridge and planning to build another.
