6.5x50mm Jap ammo -- where to buy?

I have to reload my own. Tradex has brass which is called 6.5 Jap PRVI Brass. It also has the 7.7 x 58 PRVI Jap brass for the type 99. There is some Norma brass out there but very expensive and hard to find in Canada.
I use different projectiles, 6.5mm 140 gr Hornady or Berger.
There is different reload data for what powder to use. Hodgdon or Hornady has pretty good information on what load to use. I load close to maximum, and my Type 38's love it. I own 2 of them, as well as one type 99.
As for the term Jap, all auction places and reloading sites call them Jap. It wasn't meant to be a slur when GunsNotPuns asked for assistance.

What are your usual suspects? I have had 6,5x50SR added on to a couple of orders from Epps (don't think you find it on the web site; just call).

The price has gone up tremendously over the past year. I think around $70 per 20 is what you will find in Canada for factory ammo right now!!!

Otherwise, be the first guy in the door at a gun show and hunt it down in old boxes.

I am of Japanese heritage and I am in no way offended by a cartridge from WW2 being called Jap. I am 3rd generation Canadian first. Maybe some of the older generation Japanese my take offence, because of the rampant racism of war time propaganda. I don't think you can hurt a cartridges feelings by calling it a jap, but call me one and see what happens. Lighten up.

Oh, please un-knot your knickerbockers. In this case JAP is a simple abbreviation of the whole word, as you may also see in other calibres such as RUS or BRIT.

The full designation of the cartridge is 6,5x50mm SR (Semi-Rimmed). Or people just call it 6,5 JAP. It does not refer to a person!

You know there are many poorly-implemented typing filters on-line which won't let you write something like Japan or Pakistan, because everyone knows ‘Jap’ or ‘Paki’ are offensive. Imagine that…

I didn't check Epps...I did most of the site sponsors and a few other places.

The last box of 20 I bought was about a month ago, Norma match grade (so sayeth the box) for $45. Local retailer... said he would try and get more. $45 is doable, $70 is a bit rich for my blood no matter how much I love the Arisaka.

Funny,

Typical politically correct Canadian. My kids are part Japanese, Filipino and many other ethnic backgrounds. I am not offended by it because it is what the brass is called in all books and websites. My best friend is 100% Japanese and always calls me to see if I have made any extra Jap bullets. Maybe he needs sensitivity training. It's funny, most people that are minorities really believe that we Canadians have really done a disservice by all of our politically correct issues. All of my in-laws are not from this country, and they just shake their heads in disbelief that we no longer allowed to have Christmas concerts at school, but only Festive concerts. We aren't allowed to keep any of our cultures because they conflict with others. That is them saying this, not me.
Now, if you say something racial to my wife or kids, or any minority, that is a different story. I am a way different person. Ignorance is not an excuse for racism, nor is it an excuse for politically correct people to be disrespectful to people on this site.
There have been many ads over the years looking for or selling 6.5 x 50 and 7.7 x 58 Jap brass or rounds, never an issue until now. The rifles are called Arisaka's and they are fun to shoot as well as being of good quality. (the earlier ones mostly). Maybe our friend should know that most of the mums were ground off because of respect for the Japanese so they could save face on orders of General MacArthur. I doubt he would know that.

Just my non racial, non politically correct opinion.

$52.95 per 20 for out of stock Norma at Trade Ex. Appears to be the only game in town. Not listed on Prvi's site.
Reloading is likely your best option. Hornady and Lee make dies(special order from RCBS and very expensive.). $85.00 per 100 for brass from Trade Ex. Uses regular .264" bullets

Another chap sent me a message with some detailed info on reloading, I just don't know if I want to go down that particular rabbit hole just yet -- though if I want to keep firing the Arisaka it may be my only choice.

Guess I'll just have to see if my local guy can score some and then buy up every single last round when he does -- though I can't imagine the demand for 6.5x50 Jap in northern Ontario is particularly large.

I am not sure where you are situated in the country but I regularly get mine from Gunmart in Brockville. I do not believe they have a website so if you are not close I am not sure what kind of help this would be. I think the last time I bought it it was 20 rounds of Norma ammo for $36.

Best of luck!
