Neither of my manuals show a load for 130g with R22. I have some R22 on hand that I'd like to use up before buying any more powder. Does anyone have a load using this powder and bullet weight?

Reloader 22 is a bit on the slow side for 130 grain bullets.

You also leave your question wide open to some major problems with any answer you get.

What rifle are you loading for?????

If you're loading for a Swede milsurp, then the Hornady 7th edition manual says to use starting loads.

They list a starting load as 34.4 grains of R22, giving 2300fps.

If you are loading for a modern action, like a Tikka T3, you can load up to 45.4 grains, giving 2700fps.

In my Tikka, I use 49.0 grains of R22, for 2875fps average over a chrony.

I don't reccomend anyone use this load as it is way over any loads listed for the 6.5x55.

Standard Rifle primers are used.

No pressure signs visible and I worked up to the load but stopped there, because it shot like a laser. The Tikka T3 or the Sako are very strong actions. Some of the US classic offerings in the Rem 700 or Mod 70 Win. are also very strong and will easily handle 55,000 psi loads.

The M38s and M94, M96 rifles need to be kept around 45,000psi.

R22, has a problem and it isn't one of my favorite powders because of this.

Pressures are slow to build up at first then get out of control very quickly.

My "go to" powder for the 6.5x55, is H4831, standard or short cut. It seems to be made for it specifically.

H4831, is so consistent and forgiving, I could use it in almost ever cartridge I shoot on a regular basis and just drop the rest. It is especially easy on old milsurps.

If no load is listed for a 130 gr bullet, just go with loads for a heavier bullet, in this case a 140 gr bullet.

For a 140 gr bullet, a max load of RL22 is 40.0 grs for a "military" action (e.g. Swedish M96) or 45.0 grs for a "commercial" action.

I think its worth a try but you should be able to find some data, use the hornady 129gr. data from a Hornady manual.

With RL-22 I avoid a load that does not fill a good portion of the case. From experience the starting loads from Hornady gave me a lot of soot around the neck...I would not even bother with less than 40gr.

You will find out what your rifle likes and what is safe by working up carefully.

PM me if you need some data, I use to load quite a bit for a swedish mauser.

RE-22 37.7 39.7 41.7 43.7 45.7

These are the loads from the Sierra manual for 140 grain bullets. It does give you a starting point. I do not know the weight of a full case of Re22 bearing in mind the other preceding comments.

In a commercial action, I usually use 46/47 grains of RL22 behind the 140 grain bullets, so the 130 should, technically at least, work with this or even slightly heavier loads.
If you are loading for an M38, 94 or 96 Swede, then lower charges would be discreet.

They are 2.989" OAL and I shot another group smaller I didn't bother measuring.Don't think I'll attempt tweeking this one...........Deer were bang flops this past fall.

Thnx for all the info... And yes its a tikka t3 varmint

I thought you were using a Swedish mauser for some reason...

I shoot 140's with 48gr. in winchester brass with no issues in My tikka M-65 .

I have 130's to play with but havent' had the chance. Im also switching to Norma brass that fell into my lap. Probably will start around 46.5 and work up and find a node from there .

i also shoot a swede mauser.. I think im going to load up at 44.5 grains of r22 behind the 130's and shoot that out of the swede, and mbogo3's load for the tikka (minus a grain to start with)
