I was just out in the yard checking out my 6.5X55 Winchester M70 Featherweight - making sure it is ready for tomorrow.

I did a little penetration test using 4 water filled jugs, one behind the other at 50 yds. The load was a 140 gr Speer spitzer with 51 grs of H1000.

The bullet blew apart a 5 litre bleach jug (top blown right off), blew open the next in line 5 litre jug, penetrated the next in line 4 litre jug and stopped in the 4th jug. The base of the bullet held together and weighed 72 grs.

Check out BCSteve's .264 bullet test if you haven't already! One of the better write ups/comparisons on the board.

PS Golden Lake near Barry's Bay? Drove through there on Saturday on the way to Whitney. Nice area.

If you like a challenge load 42gr MR 4350 behind a 160gr Hornady.I've never found one in any game even moose..............................Harold

I tried it a few years ago too. I wanted to see if a soft point would blow through a railroad tie as a kind of impromptu test. I put a piece or cardboard behind the tie and a chunk of 2x4 to hold it in place. I thought if it made it through it would show up on the cardboard. Not only did it get through the heavily oil soaked wood, it blew through the 2x4 and if you watch you'll see a chunk of it fly right over the berm. Also turn on your speakers. As it turns out my friend forgot to put his plugs back in.
