Anyone on this board loaded 6.5x55 Barnes Triple X bullets fo moose?
Thinking of giving it a try and wondering what load recipes have been tried.

6.5X55 vs Moose

I have taken moose with this caliber using the 140gr Sierra, the one thing I learned quickly was the 160gr was much better. Soooo for moose 160gr, deer 140gr.
It's a great caliber, can be loaded for anything from moose down to yotes.

Loaded some Barnes TSX 120 grain with Ramshot Hunter for my niece this past fall. She dropped a big cow moose with one shot, on a quartering to shot. Punched through some bone and did an impressive job. made a believer out of me

Regards

all i'll ever use for my 6.5x55 for hunting moose is the 140 grain x bullet .
it is the right length to get the bullet remotely close the rifling ( similar in length to a 160 grain round nose ) .

i've never recovered one either , they have always gone straight through the chest . lead bullets almost always get stuck on the inside of the hide on the way out .

oal from tip of bullet , 3.120" ( 140 grain x bullet )
48 grains of imr 4831
remington mag primers

your rifle will be different , so make sure you reduce your starting loads and work your way up .

The 130gr TSX will out penetrate every 140gr to 160gr bullet out there. That would be my choice.
