Hi there.

I have recently purchased a sporterized m96 and I am wondering if anyone would like to comment on their favorite brass for reloading this round and why.

I would like to be able to pick up some factory ammo and use the brass from that once fired, but I want to get good quality brass at the same time.

Comments are appreciated!

Thanks,

STV.

My preferences in order:

- Lapua;
- Norma;
- Winchester;
- Remington; and
- Federal.

The first two are about twice as expensive as the next three, which are about the same in price.

Thanks for you response Andy.

I would love to go with the Lapua although I am not sure where I would ever find it here in Ontario (near Toronto specifically) & Norma would be easier to find perhaps, but I don't think I can justify the price difference between that and the Winchester (which I have managed to source locally).

Given that the price on the Lapua and the Norma are double the price of the others, would you say that they are twice as good, or would last twice as long?

If not, how do you justify the cost?

Also, can you offer any comments on primers?

Thanks,

STV.

Any large rifle primer will work. I use Winchester 'cause it's available.

As for brass, I mostly use Remington, though I have some Igman* as well.

*-small flash hole will require reaming so your decap pins will fit. thick brass overall, smaller case capcity.

As for $$$ brass, what are you doing with your sporter? General target or hunting? Chances are Winchester/Remmy/Fed brass will be fine.

(E) :cool:

I will echo (((echo)))'s response. Unless you are planning to load match ammo, Lapua and Norma are a waste of money.
You question about how to justify the cost of Lapua or Norma over some of the less expensive brands. That's all in the case prep time you don't need to spend.

Thank you everyone for your input.

I intend to use the rifle for hunting, and based on the comments, I feel the Winchester brass will do just fine.

Cheers!
