Hey all well its time to start trying to figure out some new loads for my 2 old Swedes.. After a rebarrel and Boyds stock swap my rifles no longer group…. Im going to get them bedded as to i hope this is the main issue.. But as for a good hunting bullet I have been using 140gr sierra Game kings strictly for deer.. But now due to the lack of sierra bullets available all i have left is 130gr Sierra HPBT game kings which i know will do the job but seem to be lacking in the accuracy department… Still adequate for 100yrd shots but wouldn't push 200. I have always had good luck with Hornady Interlock for accuracy but never shot anything with them to see how they preform on Whitetail deer. I was possibly thinking using Nosler Hunting Ballistic tip as i am planning a Bear hunt for this fall and possibly may need to lend out the 6.5 to a friend. Anyways thanks all

I switched to 140 gr Nosler Partitions when I had a 120 gr Speer blow up at close range on a large doe and had a 140 gr Speer fragment on a small buck. Partitions always stay together and exit.

I have used nothing but the Hornady 160 gr Round Nose, flat base. It has been accurate in every Swede I loaded for and has held together on Moose (penetration to the hide on the far side) and does not blow up on deer. Cheap, too.

This.

If you are not shooting very far (200m or less) and can't find the 160 gr RN, buy some 155gr lapua mega from Hirsch and load them to ~2500 fps and be happy.

Thanks all for the replies!!! well i was out and about today i stopped at a local gun store and all they had was the 120gr nosler Hunting BT.. Not exactly what im looking for but some place to start and experiment and should be more then adequate for Deer.. As for Black Bear I will keep a look out for 160 Hornady and deffanitly look into the Lapua or Accubonds. I really love the swede as I have taken 4 moose with this rifle( Factory Winchester CXP2 rounds) so I understand the killing power of the fine round but a better bullet is always the better option. As for my Bear Hunt i Got the 7mm-08 with 150gr Nosler Hunting Ballistic Tips or 160gr Sierra Game Kings, but for my friend i think my 6.5 would work well with the right lead.

Thanks Again!!

my local shop (chooters choice) has 140gr sierra game kings in 6.5. I grabbed a box just the other day. that said i have been building a load based around barnes TSX's as they seem to hold a LOT of weight and probably will be the only thing we're allowed to hunt with at some point.

You wouldn't happen to know where to find some? I haven't seen any on dealer shelves for ages, nor at the gun shows. I have seen a couple of WTB ads on the EE, so I'm thinking they're a scarce commodity at the moment.

To the OP, I would suggest a visit to the tradex site... they have Woodleigh 140 gr. PP in stock, and some 160 RN as well.

Discontinued.

I have no experience with this bullet beside my 6.5 bullet test (in which they did great) but John Barsness has mentioned that it was the most unreliable bullet he had ever used. Sometime blowing on light game and sometime pencilling through heavy game. YMMV

Thanks again all!!! I never got a chance to try the 120gr Nosler yet but for my accuracy issue i got it solved.. Ended up shooting 3 shots under 1/2" @ 100 with 46.5gr IMR4831 with 130gr Sierra HPBT in an NNY case and CCI200 primer. I will deffanitly look into the heavier bullets but if anyone knows where there are 130gr Sierra HPBT i mgiht be in the market here soon..

Thanks again
Josh
