Dad's old buddy gave him a rifle to "clean up and sell."
Here's what I know-
6.5x55
bolt action
"Has a kinda rotary magazine, load it from the right side, and it feeds from the left."
has tooling marks on the barrel.
and...he wants to sell it to someone who wants a nice little rifle. Cheap. I like rifles, and I'm cheap, so this may be a match made in heaven...but I have no idea what it is.

soooo....any ideas on what this is, and what it's worth?

Probably a Norwegian Krag Jorgensen M1894. Does it have a full wood stock or a cut down sporter stock? Also check the bore, most have poor rusty bores! post a picture for a valuation!
 
I don't know how the Norwegian krag's are but the US ones are super smooth bolt actions. But the Norwegian ones have an extra locking lug too. Which will add to the strength, but I couldn't speak as far as smoothness of the action.
Cool rifle in a great round; bore condition should be the only stumbling block
 
Value will be greatly influenced by condition. Just cleaned and tested one for a chap. Some bullets keyholing at 20m. Stock broken. Nominal value for salvageable parts.
Nicely sported with a sharp bore? Couple of hundred?
And forget about easily installing a scope.
And the action is very smooth.
 
S & K makes a 'No-smith' mount; might go in the magazine cut off lever spot. Might be a 'merican model only too; need some research on it, for sure.
 
Echoing Krag.

I have one, and it is very silky to cycle. Took a few years of snooping, but finally found one with a bore. Big gaps in value for these depending on model, and condition. From as low as $150 for sporty, sewer-pipe bored examples to four figure prices on good full-wood examples. I love these actions, and the venerable 6.5x55. Pretty sure it's the only 'surp here with a cartridge cut-off. They feed singly every bit as smooth as from magazine.



Not just Norwegians, and Americans out there. Danish examples too. Danish gems are in 8x58R ,and the magazine opens differently. (guilty of having never seen one)
 
I have one, a carbine version with original sights and an uncut barrel. The stock has been chopped and it has a frosty bore, but very accurate and you just can't beat that slick action!

They are supposed to be one of the smoothest actions, I'd believe it.
I was hooked as soon as I opened the loading door and watched the follower cantilever back into the door; done...take my money!
Bit of a Mechanical geek I am.
 
I think I paid under 200 bucks for mine about 3 years ago IIRC. ( the bolt is incorrect for mine). Prices on Krags have been steadily increasing though, like most Milsurps.....
