I have been considering the purchase of a Remington 700 Police in 6.8 Rem SPC. I know ammunition is scarce, but this seems like a round worth investigating. The US Army Team Delta, as well as the Navy SEAL teams have picked up a contract with Barrett to provide 50,000 uppers for their current M4 carbines in 6.8. Usually, Delta and SEALs are the test-bed units for new weaponry entering US military service.
The 6.8 was specifically designed to replace the .223 Remington, with up to 50% more kinetic energy at ranges up to and exceeding 400 yards. Better yet, if you own a .223 rifle, it can be converted to 6.8mm by simply dropping in a barrel, or in the case of an AR-15 style rifle, a new upper, without extensive modifications.
My question is this: does anyone have any practical knowledge or experience with a 6.8mm rifle and ammunition? I'm not looking for reloading data, or specific performance levels like feet per second, bullet weight, etc, just a hands-on report on how your particular 6.8 performed.
Thanks in advance.
