6.8 spc for hunting

My wife has a 6.8 barrel on her t/c contender and has it sighted in with 110 barnes tsx. This fall it will get its first test. Sorry can't help but we're working on it.

Have one and like it, took it moose hunting last year but no luck. Will take it Elk hunting but have to mentally prepare for only taking "perfect shot". If nothing else it makes an excellent "fudd" detector!:D

IMHO whatever bullet is used just make sure that impact velocity is not much less than 2000fps, use bullet designed for hunting, try to avoid heavy bones and you should be OK for deer hunting. Moose hunting with 110gr bullet, even Barnes, I don't think so....

You don't think a bullet from a 6.8 won't go through moose ribs or even a shoulder? Guys are driving 120 sst's through hogs down south and that isn't even a "hard" bullet. But don't get me wrong, it isn't the gun/bullet combo for any and every shot but if a thurtythurty can do it, it's up to the hunter to pick his shots.

Is the 6.8 that good?
Whats the 6.8mm like at long range? I didn't do much research on the round.
I was interested in using the 6.8 in one of my AR 15s if the US military adopted it in part.

I have a new in the box Remington 700 Police in 6.8 that I am trying to sell, maybe I should keep it.
Now I am on the fence keep it or sell it?
I got the gun in a trade and I wasn't thinking at the time. It may be too heavy for me to be hunping it through the woods.

I don't anticipate having one any time soon, but a 130 @ 2300 should be a decent performer out to 200 yards with the right bullet. Notice I used the words should and decent rather than would and solid. Minimalist performance doesn't impress me, and there are suitable moose rifles out there chambered for full sized rifle cartridges. I don't get why you would want to spend more money so you can do it worse.

Once upon a time I envisioned a survival rifle based on a Contender fitted with a folding pistol grip stock and a mini scope chambered for the 6.5 TCU. The 6.8 is just more of the same, and would fill the niche equally well. The ammo is small and light which means you could carry lots of it, and the rifle should prove accurate enough to kill geese and small game, with enough power for caribou if you found yourself in dire straights. With longer range than a .22 rimfire, and better wind bucking than a .22 Hornet, in theory at least you could eat more regularly.

Works fine for yotes!

It's a light loaded .270 win with ballistics similar (...ish) to a .243 win. It would be an awesome yote and deer gun. Bullet selection would be extremely important, and I would recommend a homogenous bullet or bonded bullet for deer, only because it is a wee bullet.

Smaller bullets have taken larger animals, but your owe it to the critter for a quick and humane kill.

Happy hunting, Hakx.
