I'm having trouble getting the search function to accept "6.8 SPC" and couldn't find much with a cursory viewing of the existing 81 pages in this forum so it's out to you experts.

I'm considering putting together an AR-type firearm and while reading a few articles I came across a review by Patrick Sweeney of the 6.8 SPC in this platform. It was very interesting from a ballistics/competition POV, with more grunt downrange than the .223 and less recoil than the .308 chambering.

Pricing on the uppers (on Questar's site at least) don't seem heart-stopping. Anyone here have first hand knowledge/experience with this chambering?
 
The Grendel may be more versatile, but the large head diameter dooms it as a 5.56 replacement. First off, they probably wont replace the 5.56, second off, they will want similar mag capacities in similarly sized magazines.

Now, returning to the 6.8:

Sorry, man. Don't know anything about it. Anyone else?

Just my 02 cents.

Finding the upper is the easy part.
Finding the ammo for 6.8 spc is $23.99 for 20 rounds.
Unless you are reloading, that is a lot of $$$ down the range.

Sabre make an AR in 6.5 Grendel and Wolverine are just about to start importing them. Furthermore, you can build your own, reamers are available.

The 6.5 is the way to go.

I think the jury is still out on the merits of the 6.5 versus the 6.8. I think it's nice to know with the Grendel if you want the reach you've got it - that's why it gets my vote over the 6.8.

I heard somewhere that the Russians are now looking at the Grendel as a replacement caliber, which makes sense given the origins of the Grendel cartridge.

This is pretty much what I've found on the internet as well. None of my books (older Hornady, Speers #13, Nosler #6) list either cartridge for powder loads/bullet energy/fps comparisons. In addition, any info I have found doesn't appear to favour either choice explicitly, just to generalize that the 6.5 is better on the far end than the 6.8, and both have better long range ballistics than the
.223....haven't found a lot of definitive test articles yet, but still looking.
