Hi all,

i was wondering if there are some users of the (new) 6.8 SPC ammo around here.
I know it's a shortened .270 cartridge and that it was designed to replace a 5.56mm in the same receiver....but never heard from anyone who actually uses it. I'm sure this the right place to learn a little more about it.

The 6.8 SPC is a shortened/necked down 30 Rem case there is the original Remington saami spec chamber that usually comes with a 1-10" twist rate barrel and the newer spec 11 chamber that has a longer throat and is usually mated to a 1-11" twist barrel.

I have a 18.6" Robinson Arms XCR-L in 6.8 SPC spec 11 chamber 1-11" twist that I hunt with I took two mule deer this last fall with it first was 166 yards and the second appr 80 - 90 yards both were instant DRT.

My load of choice for hunting are 95gr Barnes TTSX with 30grs H322 powder, Rem LR primer brass = 2825fps I average when conditions are not windy MOA groups out to 350 yards.

It is a fun light recoiling cartridge that will do double duty as a predator round and yes I like mine very much.

I'm stoked on the idea of this in a Contender rifle.

Sure is a good deer cartridge! I'll keep my eyes open.I saw a Mini-14 in 6.8 SPC today...and....I think i'm just about to fall in love!

Thanks.

Only hole I have left in my Contender barrel collection is between 223 & 308Bellm I'm thinking that a 6.8spc barrel would fill the void perfectly and I'm already set up to load for it.

Check this site out it is the home of the 6.8 SPC all the info you will ever need on the 6.8 SPC can be found here... :D

I have a mini in 6.8 and really like it. I use H322 powder as well as it is very stable (in cold or hot weather) and I get the best velocities with it which is critical in a cartridge whose LOA is determined by the magazine (unless you shoot a bolt gun). I use the 110 gr. Vmax bullet in it mostly. Accuracy in a mini can be a challenge but the barrels are better. After a lot of load development I have a fairly accurate hunting rifle. I dinged an 8 inch gong at 200 yds 9 out of 10 times on my last trip to the range. It is definitely a fun gun and components are not hard to find.

I know of one grizzly and 2 muskox killed with the 6.8

Probably a nice cartridge for lots of things, great for those with low recoil tolerance, too.:p
