I am sure there is a quality difference.... but for those getting into the game, here is a great bargin to get you started.

Enjoy!

Ok, I have a question. Is a digital caliper something that should be of a higher quality....especially since we are dealing with ammo?

I was going to buy one from Canadian Tire for 30 some bucks, but was told to spend at least double on a better one.

Just a noob trying to figure out the reloading addiction!!!

You can get the CDN Tire digital ones for half that when they go on sale.

They are also fine for reloading.

A lot of guys here have them and love them.

I looked at the CT ones before going to PA today...and I swear they are made by the same company in China... they are even packaged the same way.

Been using digitals I bought from prince ass auto years ago. Compared em to a 10" pair of vernier scale ones I also have. The cheap digitals form PA are as good as any. Just replace the batteries as soon as you get em :)

Funny, the CT site says $39.99 for the caliper but the store at Yonge & Steeles in Toronto has it at 65% off, making it an OK buy. Must be a local thing or something...

I had one of these but gave them away. They are accurate enough and the ability to switch back and forth from metric to Imperial is nice but they chew through batteries. You can get cards of batteries cheaply at many dollar stores but it bugged me to find the screen blank when I wanted to use it.

I bought a mint condition Swiss caliper called "Sylvac Hommel" from an auction for $16 all in. It is like a watch, the display is always on and I haven't changed the battery yet. It must have far better circuitry than a CT or PA brand caliper does.

I have 3 of the CT ones. Of the 2 that I use I prefer one over the other. One is gritty feeling and the other is butter smooth. For $14 get a couple, then hit the Dollar store for a 10 pack of batteries.

CTC has them on sale RIGHT NOW for $13.99.
I purchased a set & found them quite nice.
When I checked them jaw to jaw against my Dial if found them accurate to 1/2 thousands :)
What I really liked is the ability to switch from in-mm quickly!

I just pulled mine out a few weeks ago (after letting it sit unused in it's case a few years) and the battery was dead.

Luckily, they give you a back-up battery too.:)

Each time I use it now, I am careful to remove the battery when I'm done.

P.S. I'd like to see some pictures of your Swiss calipers please.

I don't see it online, I wonder if it is just certain stores where it is on sale?

I am a Luddite, I still prefer Vernier Calipers. I do a bit of machining, and I never trust that the digital ones are zeroed. My Micrometers and calipers are the old kind.
