I picked up an old thrower and some 60mm clay birds last week at a local auction and would like to know how popular they are.
I would thing they would be very hard to hit.
Some research tells me that they are referred to as doves rather that pigeons.

They wouldn't be for the old Mossberg "Targo" model rifle would they. It was a .22 rifle that had adapters for shooting claybirds and it had a little thrower mounted under the gun. Quite rare.

Yep, they're called either Minis or Doves. A bunch of sporting clays and five stand events use them. At my club we use bright green/yellow minis.
I rarely ever shoot sporting clays there but when I do they're plenty of fun to try and hit, a lot of people don't ever see them when they're in the air.

That is what I have found out Minis or Doves. Going to give them a try once I get the thrower cleaned up.
Any Idea where I can some of the clay's?
Champion makes them but they do not list a dealer in Ontario.

Both Lawry and White Flyer make them.

I'm fairly certain Lawry's (Caledonia, ON) don't actually make them (minis) ... but they do stock them, as well as other sporting clays targets like battues, midis, rabbitts etc.

I was reading a book about clay sports and they mentioned a really cool trick shot where you put a small clay underneath/inside a regular sized one so that it drops out mid-air. I think they called it the hen and chick or something...

I have heard it refered to as a nested pair . makes for a fun pair for sure . have also shot them as a true pair thrown from separate traps . there size really makes there speed hard to judge .
