Does anyone have a 60mm mortar? I've been looking at them and the velocities are below the CFA limits for firearms, and the ranges aren't too crazy either. Furthermore they look really simple, so I figure they shouldn't cost too much. Anyone have experience?

Marstar had some complete Czech units a while back, I think they sold out pretty quick, which makes me think of my neighbours in a whole new way. Calm, quiet and with a 60 mike mike in the basement.

Yea I liked the look of those, but some of the velocities are borderline, iirc.

My 60mm retailers are on another computer, so I'll post the links later, but there's one model that is basically a steel tube with a length of rope attached to the top, and you brace it with your foot and the length of rope you play out has marking for the relevant distance. Plus Blue Sky surplus has plenty of 60mm practice rounds.

I've been looking at them and 40mm grenades, and I think 40mm would be cheaper to operate (just a .38spl cartridge with wadding instead of a bullet for propelling charge!), but the 60mm would be funner.

It's all Marstar's fault, since they sold out of the SKS's with the 66mm grenade launchers!

I have a 2 inch, but that would be about 50mm.

I probably posted this bfore, but memory fails me.

When the British were in Aden, the locals would set up a mortar and drop several rounds into the british camp at night, then bury the mortar in the sand until next time. They finaly tracked down the location of the mortar, but did not remove it. They simply lifted the baseplate, placed an anti tank mine under it, and reburied everything. Need I say more?;)

During the Vietnam war, US LRRP teams would sabotage VC arm cache with doctored AK & mortar rounds designed to blow up when fired. Same trick, different war.

Does the muzzle velocity even need to be considered? I thought there were no restrictions when the bore was over a certain diameter. like 1 inch or something.

Bringing this thread back to life.... So currently, what restrictions are there on mortars?

If one were to completely copy a mortar design, but omit the warhead, that'd be legal?

I asked the rcmp, there answer, left to be interpreted, i think mentioned anything 40mm and + is legal?

Good question, i wouldn't mind building up a dummy mortar, or blackpowder if thats legal?
