6BR, 22-250 or ?

Peter Dobson of Hirsch Precision. He is a GREAT man to deal with. He is in Nova Scotia. Can be reached at 902-829-2932.

It will cost you around 110.00 for 100 pieces shipped to your door. I cannot remember the exact figure. It is not cheap but worth every penny.

6BR Lapua runs about $70/100

If you buy 1000 6mm Bullets Peter will include the shipping.

Might as well pick up both....your gonna need them :)

Here is a quote Peter gave me 7/23/07 prices may have fluctuated since then.

200 Lapua 6mmBR brass $136
1000 6mm 105gr. Scenars 350
We pay shipping
GST 29.16
Total $515.16

1000 6mm 105s, bulk-packed are $330. These are expensive bullets, actually costing more than .30 bullets.

I was gonna say that $110 for Lapua 6BR brass is no deal.

Cyb, I've tried 75's in my 1:8 twists and while I was getting some impressive velocities (3350+) I certainly noticed the groups were not as tight as I hoped (3/4 moa). I only had 50 bullets to play with and never followed-up.

A buddy converted a 6PPC barrel to a 6BR Lite and he is chucking 65 grain bergers at well over 3500 in a 1:13 twist. A real gopher slayer! (700 SPS Action, Boyd's stock and custom barrel: Material and labour under 2 grand for those afraid to go custom!)

I use for my 6 mm BR 70 Grain molycoated Nosler Ballistic Tip.
Very accurate with the Vithav. N 135. ( in one hole at 100 )
Cheaper and same results as the Berger 65 grain.
Buy the Bulk Pack of 250 and do the moly coating byself, costs not more than a .223

or another option :
Hornady V-max 65 grain moly coated Primer CCI BR 4 Powder Vithav.135 32,8 grain is a hell of a load. Nothing can beat it out to 300 Yards.

My 6BR does not shoot well. But that is me and the rifle. I know the caliber is great. I watched a Canadian shooter at Bisley in 2000 (the Millenium match) shoot up a storm with a 6BR. I knew it was great at 300 yards but had not realized that little case would work well at 1000. It did.

I have competed with a 1:8 22-250 Ackley. Using stainless barrels I went through 3 barrels before conceding that barrel life was only 1000 rounds. I was launching Sierra 80s at about 3200 fps. Until the barrel let go, accuracy was great.

I have been thinking about my 6BR. I suspect the twist may not be as fast as i though it was. That woudl expalin the big groups with the 107 Sierras. A few 80s will tell the story.

I just finished a 6BR on a mauser action. I haven't spent a lot of time with it but it seems to be one of those cases where you get the book out, follow the recipe, dump powder in the case shoot it and say holy smoke," I've never seen such good groups with such little trouble." A great cartridge.
