Anyone ever try forming 6BR or 30BR from something like 308 / 243 / 22-250 or the like cases?

I am planning to build a 30 BR and I have a bunch of Lapua 243 cases left over from another rifle. It would be nice to be able to put those good quality cases back to work.

I have been practicing on some surplus 22-250 cases and a 6BR sizing die but all I have accomplished is to crush the body below the shoulder. I have formed all kinds of cases by sizing down and shortening 223 no problem but the bigger cases don't want to play nicely.

Why bother when 6BR brass can be bought and just necked up.

Seems you will spend more in time with trimming, neck turning etc than it's worth.

If you like to tinker then go for it but I would anneal the brass and polish before forming. Annealing will leave the brass "sticky", I find, so polishing with 000 fine steel wool should make the forming process easier I would think.

your a sucker for punishment.........

Norma and Lapua make great brass, just load em and shoot.

Your going to spend so much time neck turning and trimming that you will never have time to shoot. On the flip side it could be a good project for next winter if you seriously want to try and do it. I would sell your lapua 243 brass and put the money towards some new lapua 6mmbr brass.

The 6 and 30br's utilize a small rifle primer, aids in accuracy, your large primer may take away all of the true gain of shooting such a fine cartridge.....just sayin'
