Howdy all,
I’m looking for some advice on reloading a 6br. I broke the bank and purchased a custom 6br, and the thing is ridiculously accurate. Any advice I received on reloading for it was “30g of Varget, 105 Bergers, and you are golden.” And everyone was right until Varget dried up….
I finally shot the last varget and couldn’t find a reliable source, so I decided to work up a load using Dominion Arms D4064ssc. It has a similar burn rate, and my Uncle left me a s&*t tonne of it when he passed away.
Since there isn’t a lot of load data using 4064 in a 6BR, here’s what I did for a quick ladder test this weekend:
29.8g
Avg speed – 2814
SD – 3
ES – 9
30.0g
Avg speed – 2830
SD – 7
ES – 17
30.2g
Avg speed – 2824
SD – 3
ES – 6
30.4g
Avg speed – 2862
SD – 2
ES – 6
30.6g
Avg speed – 2875
SD – 16
ES – 33
30.8g
Avg speed – 2898
SD – 1
ES – 4
31.0g
Avg speed – 2908
SD – 9
ES – 22
31.2g – Do not recommend – High-pressure signs
Avg speed – 2954
SD – 106
ES – 281
It looks like there is a node at 30.2-30.4 and 30.8g. I’m looking for advice from the group on whether I should use the 30.8g and risk a reduced barrel life and high pressure in the summer (test was done at 23C) or go with the 30.3g. My previous Varget load was running at 2840.
I’ve never used a ladder test to determine load development, so any advice is welcome.
Thanks in advance!
