I’ve been thinking about building my next ar in a 6mm. I’m interested in the 6mm ar turbo and the fat rat. Does anyone have any experience with a 6mm ar? I plan to shoot steel and local prs matches with it

Can any of the Canadian barrel makers spin one up, or am I better off going stateside?

Thanks

I’ve researched it quite a bit, lots of calls to the US.
It might be a couple of hundred cheaper from the US, but at the end of the day, with paperwork, importing fees, dealing with multiple companies, etc, You’re better off contacting Rick at ATRS.
They can get you set up.

Aside from doing it because you can (which I totally get), any reason not to go 6.5 Grendel?
It is mainstream enough that brass is available, no fire forming or otherwise screwing with brass, good bullet selection, and downrange performance between the two are more or less a wash, with barrel life tipping in Grendel's favour slightly.

I've wanted to put a 6mm AR / AR Turbo together for a number of years, but I'm always reigned in by pragmatism.

I’d say 7 or 8 hundred FPS is what makes the 6 mm AR so attractive.

Probably more suited to the 1000 yard shooters.

I'm waiting for my barrel to come from ATRS. Ordered resizing dies from 6mmar. com, 6.5 grendal brass is really easy to find and resize. I'm looking forward to doing some shooting and hunting with it.

Odin Works is making a 6mm CM barrel for AR10 Platforms, but I have yet to see anything other than 6.8, and 6.5 Grendle for standard sized AR15's.

If I recall Rick did experience the with a 6x45mm AR back a few years and would be in the know.

Thanks for the replies.

I don’t have any good reasons for not going with 6.5 Grendel. Most of the info I’ve found online suggests better performance with 6mm ar or 6mm ar turbo or fat rat. I like to shoot long range and prefer the idea of a 6mm in an ar vs a bolt gun. Sometimes you just get set on an idea.

I have thought of getting a stag 10 or similar and going 6xc, but I like the idea of a 6mm in an ar. Who knows, the idea might not go anywhere, but it is tempting. I figured someone on cgn had likely been down the rabbit hole.

The barrel will run you $700 ish.
Dies and bolt another $250 ?

Not bad overall

I've thought of doing this on and off for a few years. How about 6mm PPC? A quick check on Hodgdon's web site shows a 6mm PPC has about 100 fps over a 6.5 Grendel (107gr vs. 123gr)
