Hey guys, I'm shooting a 10T barrel right now with 90gr bergers...
I'm gonna order a 8T in the near future. As far as the 105 Berger, 105 Amax and the 107 SMK which seems to get the better reviews? I've researched internet obviously but would be interested in some cgners' feedback.

Also, if I was to be interested in the 115 dtac where do you get them in Canada and are guys getting away with an 8T or is 7-7.5 needed?

Thanks guys.

Let the barrel tell you what it likes. Add the Berger 108gr to that mix.

All will work but you have to test. Most F class shooters will either use Berger or Sierra. JLK and Matrix are boutique options that work very well.

I use to offer the DTAC's but my supply chain has changed and these bullets are no longer available. Berger 115's as the closest option and a good one.

If you really want to shoot the 115's, then a 7 twist works with any case. If you are planning a large chambering, you can get away with a slower twist.

Personally, I want to be over as opposed to under stabilized. Conditions change and in a match, having bullets tumble makes it very hard to score well.

I ordered a 1-7.5" twist from Mystic Precision to able to shoot heavy 115-117gr bullets and am already having second thoughts!
You absolutely need a 1-7.8" twist to stabilize 115gr DTAC and Bartlein barrels are available in any possible twist.

These day, many top US high power shooters have abandonned 115gr DTAC and shoot more accurate but less aerodynamic 105-108gr bullets.
This choice seems to work better at 600 yards.

I shoot 117gn VLD's in my 1:8 twist Shilen that I got from Mystic, they shoot very well.

The bullets are made by a Canadian, Matrix Ballistics, he also makes superb 107gn 6mm bullets.

I also use his 7mm bullets for competition, Marshall makes a superb product, doubt you will be disappointed

I guess maybe we need to know what caliber you'll be shooting them in too?
I have tried the Berger 115Vld and the Dtacs. I think the Dtacs are more consistant however I've been testing only at 200m which is the longest range I have close. However I did shoot a 1.7 inch 5 shot group at 425m with the VLD out in the bush so I'm wondering if they settle down at longer ranges. Most recently I tried the Berger 108 BT and it was better than both the 115s at 200m.I'll have to get my hands on some 105 hybrids and see what they can do.They sound very nice.

Thanks guys...its the kinda input I like to get! You can google and research all you want, but its great to get more info right here at CGN.

I'm shooting two 6 AIs...right now a 12t with 75 vmax and 80 Berger and a 10t that wouldnt stabilize 95 Berger vlds but is getting the 90 grain down range.

I'll probably start with the Bergers...noticed not alot of feedback on the Amax ???

for what they are, Amax are wonderful. hrn has seen the money and market they don't get to play in and have made big changes to how they make their match bullets.

so far, my shooting has shown positive results. As good as berger, JLK and such? Time and matches will tell but Hrn wants a piece of the match bullet pie and have the pockets to make it happen.

amax are my goto rock smacking bullet for my LR 223 plinkers.

I sell a bunch to pooch hunters so they are popular.

They don't get alot of play in F class circles but that might change if their QC and tech improve.

Oh and as far as getting the 115 ,since Jerry doesn't carry them anymore, Superior Shooting Systems in the US WILL send anything under $100 north.

Problem is when you add the cost of freight and Cdn processing, those become REAL expensive.

Now if you want a really top tier bullet and have patience, I can now offer JLK bullets. Brand new 115gr and if their QC is like what I have been shooting, these are going to ROCK.

.

Very new slug so no real world BC yet BUT have a look at the pic and decide for yourself.

The 105gr VLD is similar in shape to the Berger so we have a baseline on that variant.

the 115 is a scaled up 105.

Here is another question for yahs...let's use berger for example...if they offer a 105BT and a 105vld and the BCs are real similar...which way do most guys lean??? Cause if I've read right the vld perhaps is a bit finnickier ?????

not 6mm but some good info on pros and cons of different bullet styles, and to the op i'd have loads for both a expensive high bc bullet like the jlk or the berger hybrid and another load for the amax. The amax is fairly cheap and will shoot well enough.

Since I'm only shooting 300 to 900 meters with the 6BR I lean on tweaking the VLD. A lot has to do with powder, primer, bullet mfg. and seating depth.
Here's a good read

If you take the time to load for max precision at LR, no bullet is finicky.

If you just want to dump some powder in, slam in a bullet and have at it, the VLD's will "seem" more problematic.

Now THAT'S interesting. Can you get the 180gr 7mm JLK? If so, what do those things cost?
QUOTE]

I am a JLK dealer and have access to ALL their bullets. Just PM or email me with your enquiries. Their production is best described as SLOW.....

But the bullets I have received have shot very well.

I will be shooting JLK's this year in my FTR.
