I have a Parker Hale 1200V with factory heavy barrel in 6mm Remington. It is a pet rifle, however the barrel twist (not sure what it is) likes only 70 grain and under bullets. I currently shoot 70 grain Sierra HPBM at 1/2 MOA. Is this a set up that will be worth shooting at long range (700 m to 1000 m) or is it too light of a bullet ?

Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

dpopl8r, I have shot my 6PPC with 68gr HPFB bullets to 600 yds. MV around 3300. But the BC of these bullets is under .3 and although extremely accurate they drift alot in the wind. On a good readable day you can do reasonably well to 600 yds, but in switchy, gusty and hard to read days, you are going to crash and burn on several shots.

And... I have checked tradjectory charts. Your bullet will likely be sub-sonic by 800yds.

For best results your Parker Hale should be restricted to 600 or so.

Give the 87gr Vmax a try. If it shoots, you are good to at least 800yds.

I used the Vmax in a 6BR and had no issue pounding clays at 800yds. I am sure with the Rem you can go at least as fast :).

If you can find them, the 90ish gr Lapua is superb and no issue at 1km. 85gr Bergers are also great. Testing these types of bullets will give you some LR options.

These are all excellent suggestions, but at the end of the day, if you're serious about 1000 yards, you're probably going to want to swap that barrel for one with a fast twist (1-8"). Then you'll be able to use the Lapua, Sierra and Berger bullets in the 105-grain weight range. These are the long-range champs, and deservedly so.

If you realy want to shoot out past 300 yds the best you could do is
an 8 twist and shoot 105 grn bullets.
High BCs and extremely accurate in 6 mm rem.
