I'm getting a 6mmBR and I'm new to the calibre. I'll be shooting mostly 85gr-100gr bullets out of a 1-10" twist barrel. The application is mostly for hunting and some target shooting (my range goes only to 300 yards, but willing to shoot for more).

With that in mind, what would be the powder of choice here?

I do have some other powders lying around for my other guns, such as H4831sc, IMR 4046, RL15, Benchmark. Any of those suitable here?

Varget is the powder I use in both of mine but with 105/107 grain bullets and a 1:8 twist.

RL 15 is supposed to work well but it seems to me that everyone I personally know that shoots 6BR all use Varget.

Thanks guys. I'll try out my RL15 and if it doesn't go well, then pick up some Varget (if I can find some!).

I read on the site about BIB 95gr being "superbly accurate", I haven't heard of that bullet before, is it a custom made bullet?

In my

10" twist 6BR and 95gr Bergers I have great luck with H4895 and VV140. BIB bullets are GREAT bullets. I have yet to get some up here to Canada. With the US laws it will be a TALL order to try and get them up here.

when it comes to the FILLET MIGNON of bullets there are next to no CDN distributors for these bullets.

Like I said earlier with the US laws as they are it is much tougher to get these bullets out of the US. These bullet makers must be registered for export and it costs money. Probably more money than they would make selling these bullets to a CDN.

The best way to get these bullets is to get together with a bunch of people and order LOTS. Have the paperwork done, split the costs and forget about how much it cost to get these BOUTIQUE bullets in your hands.

Benchmark shot well in my 6BR. It has the same twist and range of bullets as described in the opening post. Varget was just a bit better. I use the Berger 88 g FB out to 300 and the 90 grain Lapua further out. Fred

I'll probably load up some bullets with Benchmark as well, give it a shot (no pun intended ;)).

As a side note, gonna use 85gr TSX as a (back-up) deer round. What think you?

My usual hunting rifle is a 7WSM loaded with 140gr TTSX, but figure with my LEH doe draw this season, something lighter would be good for saving meat?

Sounds good. For the record, mulie poison. :D

And for the second record, it's a lightweight rifle with a 0 contour pencil-thin ;) Shilen, so I won't be shooting many strings on a hot summer day. If I fall in love with the calibre, I just might get another one for target/match singularly. My wallet says no. :D

Lighter bullets pushed faster are not a receipe for saving meat....

The 140gr TTSX actually goes past 3150fps, so I would think they wouldn't be good at "meat-saving" either. :D I made a broadside shot on a black bear in May and the front shoulders were some messed up (heart shot).

I can't seem to find any load data for 6BR with RL-15...?

RL-15 is about the same as Varget, grain for grain. Start with 30 and work up.

Other excellent choices...
