has anyone owned one. i was wondering what kind of velocity improvment you would see. the 7 08 seems to be an efficent cartridge. what does it cost to rechamber for an improved. are the dies pricey. best of all is it worth it

280_ackley on this site has one, as do a few of his friends/relatives

looking at 3000 fps with a 140 gr. out of a 22" tube, with about 50 grains of powder capacity.

I had a 7-08AI built on a Sako L579 with a 23" PacNor tube...mine would easily push a 140 to 3000 with 49 grs of IMR4350......I got dies from Redding...about $125CDN at my door IIRC....that was a couple or three years ago....I rechambered the rifle to 284 Win and sold it....now I have a 280AI...more of a good thing:) ...3150 with a 140..24" tube..:D

Thats impessive velocity with only 50 grains of powder. The 7mm short mag averages around 200 fps more but uses almost 18 grs more powder according to my manual.
This would make a superb whitetail round :)

Cheers!!

my nephew won't be a weinie like his dad. we will train him to love recoil. soon he will be looking for a rem 7ultra mag.

I personally wouldn't go with the 7mm-08 improved.

The 7mm-08 is already an improved cartridge, and the realistic gain will be about 100fps.

Som shooters report higher velocities but most always its because they are loading the cartridge to higher pressures.

Remember, its nearly impossible to tell high pressure signs below 70,000psi.

To date - 2 moose, 2 deer, 1 elk = 6 shots
I love my 7/08AI. To those that are not Ackley fans they will try to talk
you out of it. I shoot 3 of them and I wouldn't trade one of them.
