In keeping with thegunguy's post of best powder for 7/08 and not wanting to highjack it, I starting a new thread regarding the

As asked in the subject title, what say you good people of the forum?

I tried 160 grain Partitions in my 7.08 (Vanguard II/24" barrel) - ran between 44 and 45.5 grains of IMR 4831. Didn't experiment with other powders.

Results were "ok" but get better groups and trajectory with 140 grain Partitions or A-Frames over Varget, which is my "moose load".

From the Sierra Manual:

Accuracy Load: Viht N140/ 39.0grs. 2600fps/ 2401ft. lbs.
Hunting Load: RE-19/ 46.2grs. 2700fps/ 2589ft. lbs.

Three loads at 2700 fps and none beyond 2700.

H4350 , accuracy was superior to W760 in my tests, velocity went to W760 but only slightly.168gr bullets in this particular test.

Results looked parallel between SMK and VLD.

26" 9 twist barrel.

That being said, the results I settled on were 150 SMK.

I normally use 120 gr. TTSX (Varget) in my 7-08 but a#guy I Know who used to load for that caliber but no longer owns one gave me a box that were FL sized and fit my chamber so I blew them off at the range just so I'd have a few more brass. They were 160 gr. partisans loaded over Win 760 and they were about 3/4 MOA out of my rifle. Didn't take any chrono readings from it, though. It had me believing that my Sako 85 SS shoots everything well since I have two other loads made up for it as well, 110 TTSX (Varget) and 140 gr. ballistic tips with RL15 that I use as my practice rounds. Love the 7-08 caliber,,,so versatile if you hand load.
