I just purchased a 21" barreled s/s T/C Contender single shot carbine in 7-30 Waters.

Anyone have reloading experience/data especially with spitzer style bullets for the 7-30 Waters that they care to share?

I've been doing a search on the net but this is a tough cartridge to find data for.

I'm sure that Ken Waters would have done an article or 2 in Handloader magazine on "his" cartridge. Should also be in Pet Loads. If you don't find what you are looking for on line send me a PM and I'll check my Handloader mag collection and mail you what I find.

This is probably very little if any help to you because I had a different rifle but my most accurate loads were with a 120 gr. Nosler over 34.5 H335 and / or 35.5 4064.

I have been shooting the same rifle for about 15-20 years. Its a great cartridge!

I have used 140-160 grain Nosler ballistic tips, 154 grain hornady interlock, and a few others.

I am not presently close to my loading records, but feel free to PM me later, and I will gladly give you my info.

A few years back, a friend of mine shot a 50" bull moose with my 7-30 Waters. (154 grain. Hornady). Worked just fine! Lots of fun to shoot!

I have taken whitetails,Mulies, bears and moose with this caliber. Funn! Fun!

Good info thanks.

I finally found my old #4 Hornady reloading manual in the handgun section it shows max 35grs IMR4064 with 139gr bullets they are using a Contender handgun with a 14" barrel.

I made it to the range this afternoon with a box of 120gr Fed Factory loads that came with the rifle and 12 139gr SST's IMR4064 reloads.

6 rounds 34.5grs = 2453fps

6 rounds 35grs = 2495 fps

120gr Factory BTSP-FN = 2572fps

Edit to add; I made it to the gun club again today the average velocity for the 35gr 139SST loads is now 2510fps wind was crazy and cold today so groups if you could call them that totally sucked.

One bullet I am thinking would work especially after reading your post dthunter re 154gr bullet is the new .611 BC 150gr Accubond Long Range.

I have a very long throat in this chamber should have loads of room to seat this bullet so it is not going to deep into the case.
