Search won't let me search on "7.5".
Are the shorty 7.5 barrels available in canada chambered in 556 not 9mm?

I'm thinking about an SMG or pistol build.

Zut alors...
I guess the alternative is to get a barrel cut. But what would happen to the twist if i Cut a 10.5?

I have no experince when it comes to cutting ar barrels. The only thing I know if you cut to short you may have to get a new gas port drilled. If you ever find one give me a shout, i have a build in mind too...

Issue will be drilling the gas port.

you MUST use 1/7 if you want anything decent @ 50 or 100.

I had key holes on target at 50 and 100 with a 1/9 using 55 and 62gr

I 'heard' that when cutting chrome lined barrels, the chrome doesn't hold up so well on the area that is severed. Any truth to this?

Dlask makes barrels, and he does special orders, I see no reason why he wouldn't do a 7.5" barrel for you if you asked, it may cost more.

Yes basically, A chromoly or stainless barrel will be easier to finish/cut. But if the chrome was hard and well made (norinco are know for hard chrome) than there is no problem.

The problem is that their's a possibility of the chrome peeling or flaking away at the muzzle if done improperly. A competent smith or machinist should have no problem. The bigger problem is the proper location and size of the new gas hole that will have to be drilled. I'd only trust this job to someone with experience in this area.

Can any one recomend any smiths to do this preferably in the souther ontario area hamilton area maybe? Looking at getting my 16 cut down to a 10.5 but would like someone to do it who will take into account the gas port etc?

Called Tacord today... He brought up a very good point! Purchasing a 10.5 factory made up is legal, however once you go to cut any barrel length down you can not cut beyond 18.5 making it illigate to cut down my 16 to a 10.5 there for i will just have to try and find one for sale

Since an AR upper is not the part registered, you can make any length of barrel as long as the overall length of the rifle is ok.

Check out ArmsEast, he'll cut down a 16" to what ever you want. He sent me a price, I think it was $465.00.

The US, B.S. of not exporting short barrels is their rules not ours.
I have heard that they are going back to the days of NO; flash hiders, CAR stocks nor shorter than a 16" barrel.

the cutting barrels only applies to non restricted rifles cut to under 18. pistols can only get cut to 106mm. the AR is a restricted rifle so you could cut it to 18mm if so desired.
