This is the third NEA to arrive in the last month. The 14.5 and the 10.5 came first. The 14.5 is in service and working well. The 10.5 has some little issues that NEA offered to take care of. It is on the way to them now.
The last one, the 7.5" is heavier than it looks. This will probably be a good thing when shooting off hand, as in CQB. The trigger is the typical AR-15 trigger. A half hour with some fine lapping compound will smooth it up, I am sure.
The mag release is smooth. The other two were rough. The release latch on them needed to have the inside edges cleaned up so the mags would latch easily in place.
No surprises in shooting it. Went bang every time and extracted, ejected and loaded perfectly. I was wearing muffs, but noise did not seem any different than the longer ones.
I make three types of 5.56 ammo. Full power (used for service rifle conditions), 80% power (used in rifle length AR-15s in CQB) and 60% power (used in short rifles in CQB).
The AR-15s use various size gas holes. My Colt and SGW need 80% or more to cycle the action. The same ammo in my Norinco 14.5" feels brutal, so I make a very mild load for it. The 7.5" NEA ran just fine with the mild ammo. This makes for very pleasant plinking and fast rapid fire in CQB.
Out of the box, this 7.5" NEA works just fine. Now it needs sights.
