I am researching Mauser military rifles in calibre 7.65 mauser. Does anyone own one that is marked 7.65 on the barrel or electro penciled on the receiver? I would like to get some photo's of the marking.

I am also interested in any "sporterized" Mauser 7.65's may have had the caliber marked.

I'm assuming you are talking about the 7.65x53?

None of the Mausers I've owned or currently own in 7.65x53 are marked as such. I've never seen one electro penciled.

It's possible some import marked ones have had some sort of marking applied to indicate the chambering. I have seen that before on several different Mausers.

Edit to add: Apparently some 1909 Peruvian's were marked 7.65 m/m on the right receiver. Mine isn't so I'm not sure how common that is.

A little more research shows that various Mauser Oberndorf Standard Modell 1933's sold to several S.A. countries might have a 7.65 stamped on the barrel shank so that would be another place to look.

Thank you for the info. I will follow up. Page 249 of Ball's Mauser reference Vol. 3 shows a photo of a Peruvian Model 1909 with the caliber electro penciled on the right side of the receiver. So far that is the only photo evidence that I've seen.

I have 3 Belgian 1889s (1889, 1889/16, 1889/36) in 7.65mm. The 1889/16 is hand stamped 7.65 but it doesn't look at all like arsenal work. The 1889 is British commercial reproofed, but it says 7mm! Raises the interesting possibility if they actually fired a 7x57 proof round in there...
